My housebound parents live locally and I live an hour and a half away, so when I visit they always want a chip shop lunch. I’ve always found the food good here, it’s typical in that fresh out of the fryer it’s best, and if it’s been sat a while maybe not so good so I suppose busy times with good turnover is the key. The large chips portion is huge we’ve learned it’s adequate for 3 people now, so much better value than the price initially suggests. You get a choice of small or large cod but the haddock is just large good to know depending on your appetite. Pies have always been good, not soggy anytime I’ve had one. I’ve never caught them busy, which worries me that one day it might not be there anymore. If you want your convenient chip shop then make sure you use it!
Really disappointing, as we've usually had good fish and chips from here, but the last twice we've been, the fish has been an odd grey colour underneath and the batter was really soggy. Chips have been quite dry and the mushy peas tasted bland. Couldn't eat all the meal as the colour of the fish put us off, and hubby felt ill afterwards. At nearly £20, it was an expensive waste. Not sure why standards have dropped, we gave the Union Jack a second chance after the previous disappointment, but we won't be going back, nor recommending.
Been here before and had good food however today the fish was dry and over cooked while the chips were soggy and under cooked. Disappointing
With it being a nice day we decided to walk down to The Union Jack chippy and walk back through Walton Dam. We arrived about 10 minutes before they closed and appeared to be in somewhat of a mini rush, as it seems lots of others had the same idea. We mainly opted for the mini fish and chips special with curry sauce which also came with a free sausage or fish cake. Service is always polite and friendly, the cost is very reasonable and the food is great. One of our favourite places to eat out at present.
It's a chippy. But it's a great chippy not only for traditional fish and chips and a choice of cod or haddock with a choice of size but also pies sausage and burgers and kebabs to boot. Had large cod and chips tonight and it's to be recommended. Service is excellent and speedy so don't be put off if there is a bit of a queue. Good food hot and well wrapped with a smile.
