West River Cafe - Chicago

This restaurant has been my go-to spot for lunch during the days I've worked in the area, and it's a great place for a quick bite. The chicken Caesar salad is absolutely fantastic! That's really the main reason I decided to write this review. The service could be a little better, but overall, it was a good experience. Plus, parking is convenient.

This diner is a reliable choice for breakfast and lunch. The daily soup is fantastic, especially the beef barley, which I really enjoyed during my last visit. The staff is friendly, and the efficient kitchen can have you in and out in about half an hour if you're in a hurry (that's been my experience at breakfast). They offer a wide range of regular specials that add a creative twist to classic comfort food. I've tried their omelets, pancakes, corned beef hash, as well as several skillets and Benedicts, and all have been delicious.

I had a delightful late lunch at this restaurant. I ordered the manager's special while my girlfriend tried the Montrose special. I anticipated a typical diner experience, but what we received was far beyond my expectations. The sausage was top-notch quality pork, definitely not the usual frozen kind, and the hash browns tasted like they were made from freshly grated potatoes, not from a freezer. I highly recommend this spot for a cozy neighborhood breakfast!

Food has always been delicious so no complaints there, if it was based off the food alone I'd give five stars. Four stars because their drinks are pricey, $4.50 for a glass of apple juice is crazy to me!

This is an awesome neighborhood diner. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, delicious food. They have your standard diner favorites, and an awesome selection of breakfast skillets. Great portions for your dollar you’ll leave full and happy.
