Great pub with good, reasonably priced food. Went for dinner after a day at Weald Downlands Museum. Service was friendly. You order and pay before you grab a table. They offered Jarrold's gin, locally made in Chichester, which my friend really enjoyed with some tonic. I had the large cod and chips, really big and tasty. Note that it still had skin on one side which I didn't mind, but my friend didn't like. It came with a huge serving of hot chips and plenty of peas. My friend and mash and sausages which were locally butchered.
This is a beautiful looking old pub with really nice comfortable seating that is ideal to lounge about on a Sunday and enjoy a long lunch. The staff are great and happy enough to see new faces as well as lookig after their locals. They have an excellent carvery which I know is a little bit 80s but it is really good quality and the portions are huge. We went there last Sunday and I had the gammon and turkey, both were cooked to perfection and not in any way dry. Plenty of real ales on offer and a good selection of house wines make this a great place to head to to really fill yourself up!
High priced food. Food is OK, but not worth the price. Carvery nice but we found it expensive for our tastes so we went to other restaurants during our two week visit.
This is the best place to go if you want a carvery. You will need to book on a Sunday as they get very busy in there. The carvery wasn't as good when I went in the week but where Sundays are so busy, the food is constantly replenished and is always fresh. Yorkshire puddings are homemade and you have a choice of beef, turkey and gammon plus a selection of vegetables. Carvery costs £10 per person.
