We had a lovely lunch, wonderful food and great service. Comfortable seats and a warm and friendly atmosphere. We will be back. Thanks to David.
We hadn't been to Bedford Arms for quite a while so decided to book for Sunday lunch were looking forward to it. However the food was not very good the roast dinner that the rest of the group had ordered was luke warm and i had the fish and chips which was very greasy and lacked flavour. The service was mediocre as well and the starters of the sourdough bread and the beef dripping popcorn were not very good either (i expected better presentation and the pop corn was like it had just come from the local supermarket) All in all a disappointing experience and i don't think we will be going there again such a shame as the location and the atmosphere in the pub is lovely.
Excellent roast, they were a little short staffed but they coped really well. Lovely location close to wonderful walks and Chenies manor
We had a nice table in front of the fire though it was turned off at the time. Service was friendly and efficient and we were through 2 courses in just over an hour. We chose crab and prawn cocktail, and fig and radicchio salad as starters. The prawns were tasty , but unaccountably accompanied by 4 quarter slices of unbuttered white bread when brown is usually considered more appropriate. The salad was light and good but with virtually no olive oil it was difficult to see how it could possibly have amounted to the 585 calories claimed. The beef mains were thinly cut, tender and delicious and a nice change from the sometimes gristly and leathery offerings we have experienced at other Herts venues. The beef was also of a quantity that suited our appetites , whereas rivals establishments sometimes load the plate so high it short circuits the breathing. The accompanying vegetables and Yorkshire went down well and the dish was never dry. Only niggle the roast potatoes , while perfectly consumable, were todayundercooked to the extent that they were effectively just parboiled. Together with a large glass of Merlot and a pint of Peroni the bill came to £82, £90 including our discretionary tip. So friendly, tasty, slightly pricey and we look forward to returning when the weather is a bit warmer to sample their extensive range of outdoor seating.
