Had cookery school day. As an experienced baker even I learned something new. Gérard is lovely definitely knows his stuff, made lots of yummy things to take home. Lunch which we eventually got to at 2.45 as the restaurant was busy !was a huge disappointment, flat bread a very disappointing salad, not impressed with the freshly picked garden roasted veg either. These day courses are not cheap expected something a bit more substantial than what we got. Chewton Glen The Kitchen seriously needs to sort this out as I'm definitely not happy Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3
Location was wonderful with lunch taken on the outdoor terrace next to some beautiful landscaping. Service was warm, friendly, and well timed. Food was mixed. Salt and pepper Squid was excellent. Well cooked, crispy, with a well balanced sweet chilli sauce and a generous portion. Thai Crab risotto was perfectly cooked and the spicing was robust and flavourful. However, for £18 for a starter, I'd expect more than 2 lumps of crab meat. If you took a bite without crab, you would not know this was a crab risotto. The Lamb rump main was excellent. Generous portion of well cooked lamb, full of flavour and the vegetables and mint salsa verde complimented the meat well. Sirloin steak very disappointing. Very thin cut which meant there's little room for error when grilling and this one was more medium well than medium rare. Had that tight texture and dry mouth feel. For £38, this isn't really acceptable and a very stingy portion of questionable quality steak that wasn't well cooked. I know I could cook a better steak and that's never a good sign at this price point. Dessert, we shared the Tarte Tatin which was excellent. Like eating a deconstructed toffee apple. Total bill was £175 for 2x starters, 2x mains, 1x dessert, bread, and a bottle of wine. Pleasant lunch but left feeling we could have had better for less elsewhere.
Seem less surroundings located on the edge of the new forest, emaculate presentation which goes hand in hand with the exquisite taste of the food and mock tails. The authentic vegetables are grown on site which reflects the low carbon footprint and climate awareness of this true food treasure trove. Speedy service In a relaxed environment makes you feel truly at home. Been here before and will be back especially after today’s wonderful experience. Special thanks to Cheryl and the rest of the incredible staff. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
