I went here a couple of weeks ago and was not very impressed. While the the food was nice enough, I didn't think portion sized matched the price. We went there at 5:30pm on a Friday and the restaurant was fairly empty, but they had already run out of the entrée dishes, so said they would make us up an entrée. This ended up being several side dish sized lentil type dishes that felt more like meal accompaniments than an entrée. My biggest gripe about our experience was that while the restaurant was largely empty it still took over 40 minutes for just the entrée dish to arrive.
I have spent about a month travelling through Ethiopia and fell in love with the cuisine. They fast on Wednesday and Friday which means they go vegetarian, and even though I'm a big meat eater, even the vegetarian is superb. I live in Tauranga and have managed 3 visits to The Meeting Tree this year. The food is authentic and delicious. Can't wait for this style of cuisine to catch on in Tauranga as I would eat there often. The prices are reasonable and for a newbie I definitely recommend both the meat and vegetarian platter, my wife and I got both and had a feast. Injera is one of the most unique tastes I have ever had, come with an open mind to a new experience and enjoy!
An outstanding selection of vegan dishes as well as others. The service is friendly and very fast although not the most polished: Both times I've eaten here, the wait staff have been confused about wine orders and have shown me the wine bottles and asked me to chose which one I would like. Personally, I think this adds to the charm and authentic appeal of the experience and 20 years ago, staff in Thai and Indian restaurants were similarly confused. The food is amazing; so many flavours and textures. Some of the ingredients are quite similar to Indian food, eg. split peas, lentils etc. but the spices and tastes are very different, fresh and delicate.
Went with a group for lunch, food was great we were all pleasantly surprised. pricing was confusing as there was no lunch menu when we went as shown on the zomato page and what we were charged didnt quite match up with either menu might need updating
