Contribuisci feedbackWhilst the menu is extensive (and the wine list even more so) the steaks take pride of place at the Capitol. Open plan, so a little noisy but not overly so, you even get a view of the dry aged steaks in glass cabinets. We all had beef of some description and were universally impressed. My request for "blue" was spot on - lightly charred on the outside and still very red in the middle. A good range of sides.
We went to the Capitol Bar and Grill for an anniversary night out after being told the food was excellent, we were not disappointed. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than the average restaurant but not ridiculously so a main being about $35 to $45, some meals require additional for vegetables, but is worth every cent the food is excellent. The food is presented beautifully and tastes wonderful, on top of that the service is exceptional for this day and age, pleasant attentive and helpful. My wife is allergic to garlic, but the waitress went back and forth to the chef to identify what she could have and there was a choice. On top of this the atmosphere is very pleasant and with music at a level where it could be enjoyed but you could still hear yourself in a conversation. Hats off to the Capitol Bar and Grill and many thanks for a great night out.
The steak and sides are superb. This restaurant is worth a visit. The venue is amazing. However, the service and timing of meals need work.
In the QT hotel, there's a big and funky bar and restaurant area. Started with drinks at the bar, huge selection, good bar staff but high prices, then moved to the restaurant. The rib eye steak, great served rare, must be the best steak I've had in Canberra (just as well for $50, although it can certainly compete with $50 steaks in Sydney), with good sauces and sweet potato fries. Just be careful with the wine. We ordered the recommended $65 Clonakilla displayed in a big box in the middle of the menu (already way too expensive for a Canberra wine), but they apparently bought us the $175 wine from the same company. I saw the label when it arrived and I'm still not certain that we drank the expensive wine (certainly very little difference in the taste), but when we questioned it, they quickly adjusted the price to the cheaper wine. This fit in with generally good service in the restaurant but I would think that good risk management would lead them to explicitly confirm when someone orders a $175 wine, especially when the cheaper version is in a big square in the middle of the menu and is their recommended wine.
Best bartender ever jack was amazing!Would recommend - a sneaky nice bar in an otherwise quieter quarter of Canberra
