It came with three pieces of bacon, a large leaf of lettuce, a slice of canned pineapple (I expected it to be grilled, not straight from the can), and a slice of tomato on bread. I requested Pepper Jack cheese instead of Swiss but was still served Swiss. As for the Hot Turkey Sandwich, I’ve attached a picture. I really can't understand who would want such an excessive amount of gravy on their meal. We specifically asked for the gravy on the side to avoid a soggy sandwich, but it seems our request was overlooked. Whether these mix-ups were due to the server not communicating clearly with the chef or simply the chef’s lack of care, it certainly reflects poorly on the establishment. We had higher expectations from a restaurant/pub run by the same people who own Lorenzo’s in Amsterdam.
This is one of the best hidden gem bars I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming; both the regulars and the amazing staff (shoutout to Chris!) treat you like family. The food is delightful, with the fish being exceptionally fresh and cooked to perfection. I also really enjoyed the coleslaw. Thank you for making my husband and me feel right at home!
First off, the ambiance of the place is far from inviting. It resembles an old diner or cafeteria, with outdated seating that doesn’t offer much comfort. We arrived around 6pm on a Monday, and the restaurant was mostly empty, with just a couple of people in the dining area and a few at the bar. We were seated right away, which was nice. We ordered burgers and fries, and I must say, the food was excellent—without any complaints there. Our waitress was generally fine too, until she asked my boyfriend if he wanted a soda refill, which he accepted. Soon after, we received the bill, and this is where the problems began. We were taken aback and annoyed by the multitude of extra charges listed. Not only did we pay for our meals, but there was also a surcharge for using a card and a bar charge—even though we didn’t use the bar! To top it off, they charged us for my boyfriend’s soda refill. I find it outrageous when places charge for soda refills, but what really irked me was that our waitress failed to mention this until we saw it on the bill. The cost was absurd, and I dislike when servers don’t disclose such things upfront. As a result, we deducted the amount of that refill from her tip. The combination of those unexpected charges made it clear that we won’t be returning during our next visit to Johnstown. I've dined in my fair share of restaurants, and I’ve never encountered such billing practices before. It’s disheartening that they don't have the courtesy to inform customers about these extra fees. Save yourself the unexpected costs—don't eat here. It’s just not worth it.
Food was delicious. Service was great. Friendly atmosphere for a good pub meal.
