It's odd that I recall leaving a review, and now it's vanished. First and foremost, I have to say that all the drinks here are mediocre at best—either overly sweet or completely bland. The atmosphere is also quite disappointing; it's loud and feels rather low-class. I've been to plenty of cocktail bars in NYC and don't mind paying $22 for a quality cocktail, but this place is, by far, the worst I've encountered at that price point.
Here’s what I specifically recall trying, in case you spot them on the menu again: - **Flirtibird**: Barley shochu, Mizu no Mai, shiso, yuzu juice, agave nectar, with a plum salt rim - **Night Day**: Glen Morangie, Cherry Heering, Mandarinetto, Cap Corse, Rouge, Leather - **Mona Lisa**: Earl grey infused Boatyard Double Gin, Lillet, Combier, bitters - **Milestones**: Suntory Toki, Hojicha Royal milk tea, pandan, grapefruit, lemon I’m always drawn to fancy-sounding ingredients, especially those tied to traditional Japanese cuisine. It was such a fun and classy experience that I would take anyone here. My friends and I were on a thrilling speakeasy-hopping adventure, and Angel's Share set the perfect tone for the night. I do wish I had dressed a bit nicer for my evening out in NYC, but I suppose that just means I’ll have to return!
We started with two cocktails: the Flirtibird and the Smoke Got In Your Eyes. **Flirtibird:** Made with Barley shochu, Mizu No Mai, shiso, yuzu juice, agave nectar, and a plum salt rim. This was our favorite of the two, and I expected it to be as I’m a big fan of shochu and all its components. It was perfectly sweet, with the plum salt rim adding a lovely touch of sourness. Overall, it was very well-balanced. Definitely recommend! **Smoke Got In Your Eyes:** This cocktail features Maker's Mark 46, Cocchi Barolo Chinato, Oloroso Sherry, Benedictine, bitters, and smoke ($19). As anticipated with those four spirits, this one was strong with a notable bitterness. We quickly understood why the glass contained so little, as it packed quite the punch. It felt a bit unbalanced, but given that it’s essentially their take on a Manhattan, I suppose that’s not unexpected. Adding orange rind or a similar ingredient could help balance out the intense flavors. I decided to try one more cocktail, opting for the Speak Low after spotting matcha and sherry in its ingredients. **Speak Low:** This drink includes Bacardi Carta Blanca, Bacardi Ocho, Pedro Ximenez sherry, and matcha ($18). I usually don’t enjoy rum cocktails, as I find they can be overpowering, but this one was an exception. It was well-balanced, with the matcha cutting through the sweetness before it became overwhelming. Both my friend and I agreed it was our favorite, with the Flirtibird coming in a close second. Overall, this cocktail bar is fantastic. The bartenders are friendly and provide great recommendations, and I have very few complaints about the drinks. It's a shame to hear they're closing, but I hope their new venture lasts for another 30+ years. Mid 4 rating.
I read so many wonderful reviews about this place that I had high hopes for my visit, and I was still incredibly impressed. The cocktails here are truly unique and expertly crafted, complemented by excellent service and a cozy atmosphere. You can really tell that a lot of thought has gone into creating these cocktail recipes. My friends and I sampled the Milestone (which includes milk tea—something I haven’t seen before!) and the Snow Fall, and we thoroughly enjoyed both drinks. If I had the time and money, I would happily spend the whole night trying all of their cocktails; they are that good! I plan to return to explore more of the menu. I visited on a Monday night around 8 PM and only waited about 10 minutes for a table. I’d recommend coming during the week to avoid the crowds!
