50 West Bistro - City of Red Deer

The service was the best I've experienced in years. Our server demonstrated a deep knowledge of wine pairings and menu selections, guiding us to a memorable experience. It's also worth mentioning that the restaurant offers a great wine list with about 75 selections. As frequent diners, we were very impressed with this establishment. It's quite small, seating only around 50 guests, so making reservations is likely essential. I have no doubt this place will be very successful. Highly recommended!

I called twice but didn’t get an answer. I left a message for a reservation and then went ahead and reserved a table for two online. However, when I arrived, I found parking a block and a half away, only to discover that the restaurant was closed during its listed hours at 6 PM on Saturday, October 22. This should definitely be communicated to customers on the website or through the answering machine. We’ve always heard good things about the food here, so I’ll give it another chance.

The second point, unfortunately, is the pricing. Thankfully, my date and I had a gift card that covered most of our meal's cost. However, when I assessed the total expense and compared it to the quality of the food and presentation, I couldn't help but notice a significant disparity. The price of our meal far exceeded the true quality of the taste and presentation of the dishes. For these reasons, I wouldn’t recommend 50 West, as there are many alternatives (yes, even in Red Deer) that offer better value and a more satisfying culinary experience.

I was really disappointed. My partner and I decided to visit for the first time in months for a date, and we found the portion sizes to be unacceptably small and the prices far too high. The atmosphere lacked any enticing aromas, and the wait for our food felt like it lasted an eternity. To make matters worse, our meals were overcooked and dry. The only positive aspect was the service and the drinks. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Steak was not the best. not drink wine, but the beer selection was good.
