We picked Michaelangelo's for a nice birthday dinner. I had been there before, and the food, service, and ambiance were great, We had an eggplant appetizer (my friend is a vegetarian) that was delicious and large enough to share. I ordered the gnocchi with a hazelnut pesto sauce, but the sauce was very bland. My friend ordered a drunken goat cheese pasta that was amazing. The service was excellent with a very attentive server, and the wine list was pretty extensive. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
Very disappointed. Have not been in a few years and will not go back. Ignored after being seated so we had to flag a waiter, waited again for water, menus. Had to ask about specials. Took forever for anything to arrive. One in our party ordered well done pork chop and it arrived barely cooked. Took some time to flag someone down and ask for it to be cooked. Entire party was finished with their entrees before the pork chop was returned to table by manager. When questioned about all that occurred to this point manager developed an unprofessional attitude and responses. Not what you would expect from a higher quality restaurant. The executive chef/owner's name and phone were asked for on the way out and hopefully a discussion with him will provide better results. The only positive to take away was that the food (other than the uncooked pork chop) and wine was very good. What a shame.
There was an older woman and a younger girl at the front desk. They were not very friendly. Nobody welcomed us to the establishment. We were a half hour early for our reservations and the place was empty. She said our table wasn't ready. We asked if we could have a drink at the bar and wait. The younger girl said she would come get us. Same thing with the bartender. She told us we couldn't sit where we were sitting and we waited over minutes at an empty bar for her to serve us drinks. To the bartenders credit she did become much friendlier however she never came back to check on us. The rude young girl from the front came back and sat us. I was wearing a dress (very obviously mind you) and she asked if I wanted a black napkin due to my pants I figured as much about offering me the napkin as she should but the way she said it was super rude and the whole thing was awkward. However from then on out we had an alright time. The food was absolutely amazing. We both got the filet. Excellent. However the service wasn't what I would have expected from such a restaurant. Luckily the food was so amazing but I have had much much much better experiences else where. For the amount of money we spent I just wished there was something a bit extra. The dining room is nice and clean but nothing spectacular. Come for the food!
Michaelangelo's was the quintessential experience for Cleveland's Little Italy neighborhood. The pastas are hand-made, the wine list is huge and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. This in an authentic and very classy-upscale Italian restaurant. The menu is extensive, yet very original. This place is classy and perfect for a romantic date. It offers ample parking as well. Definitely worth the price. The food was incredible. Would definitely recommend to friends and come back again!
