The Smugglers Rest - Clogherhead

What a wee hidden Gem , great food drinks Fab cocktails amazing staff first time here definitely be back 11/10 smugglers

Totally overrated the chowder was good but the mains were really terrible. I ordered the Thai Chicken curry, it was probably the worst Thai curry I ever tasted, the chicken was really tough and I simply could not eat it. I complained to the waitress. She was apologetic and said she would inform the kitchen. The Manageress then came and apologised but said the dish was 1 of their most popular among customers. I said that maybe the case but for me it was not up to standard. The curry was served in bowls 1 with the curry and 1 with the rice. The bowls were so hot it was impossible to hold and pu the food on my plate. This gave me the impression that the food was reheated in a microwave. Needless to say we will not be revisiting.

It’s a sports bar with television in every corner the only room without a television was the sun , the Noise was deafening, with could not enjoy our food in peace to much noise

Television was blaring, sport forced on you whether you wanted it or not. We had driven an hour to get here hoping for a relaxing meal but just had a starter and left. Never again. Asked a couple of other customers what they thought and they were also annoyed but felt management weren’t interested. One of the most unpleasant places to eat that I’ve been in for a long time.

The freshness and choice of food at The Smugglers is fantastic. The staff are always so pleasant and helpful and there are great pub quizzes, live music and a great atmosphere. Great choice of seafood we especially love the scampi and the chicken wings. Great selection of beers but would love more choice in bottle of wine to match the gastro vibe. Will definitely be back its a great asset to Clogheread.
