Suju Sushi - Closter

Excellent new sushi spot in downtown Closter. Hanamo is a step up from your average neighborhood sushi joint. In terms of quality, I would rate it in line with Jugemu in Cresskill or Bon in Westwood. Prices are on the steeper side, but you are paying for high quality sushi. I ordered a Chirashi and a spicy salmon roll. Both were fantastic and feature high quality ingredients and great presentation. The restaurant is not very big. It has 6-7 tables so it can accommodate 20ish customers at any one time. Parking is available either on the street or in a lot a few steps from the restaurant.

The owners are so friendly and the sushi is amazing quality for the price.

Very mediocre quality. Tuna had both an unnatural color and plastic taste. Salmon was overly fatty. Very disappointing given all these great reviews.

Not to mention, the sushi is fresh and delicious. Since it was my first time ordering from here, I decided to keep it simple and got a spicy tuna roll and a yellowtail roll, which each come with six pieces. I loved both of them, and I was amazed at how affordable the prices are compared to other sushi places, especially considering the quality is on par! I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the mood for sushi.

I ordered a variety of spicy tuna, salmon, and a couple of special rolls. The secret to great sushi is straightforward: fresh ingredients and a balanced ratio of rice to protein. Both of these were spot on. Although I can't recall the names of the special rolls we tried, they were definitely delicious—perfectly balanced and not overly saucy. Cheers!
