Tao Haus - Closter

During a visit to see family in the area, we stopped by this restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was nice and clean, with unique decor. However, we were the only customers there and it was very warm inside. The menu could only be viewed on a phone, which may be difficult for those who are not tech-savvy or have a poor connection. Our waitress was not very friendly and the overall atmosphere felt awkward. We requested items on the menu that were not available, such as BBQ selections and bubble tea. The food was average for me, served family-style but with small portions for the price. The flavors were bland and nothing stood out to make us want to return.

I am sorry, but this restaurant is extremely overpriced, especially considering the quality of the food. We paid over $60 for two people to share a few dishes at a takeout place, and the dishes we received were not even what we had ordered. The flavors were off, even the water tasted strange. The teriyaki dish tasted like wonton soup and the fried rice was basically just plain white rice with egg mixed in. The dishes seemed to be a healthier version, but this was not mentioned on any menu since there was no physical menu available. Nothing was displayed on the walls or on a screen, so we had to use our phone to access the menu. Unfortunately, if the website did not work properly on our phone, we were out of luck. Given the high prices, I expected better quality than what we received. The combination of subpar food and exorbitant prices made the experience even worse. However, this place may appeal to hipsters.

I absolutely adored the gluten-free dumplings and the fried rice at this restaurant! They have great gluten-free options and I highly recommend trying them.

This place is very good. It has very good dumplings and fried rice. The atmosphere is meh but you go there for the food. I ordered takeout and picked up and it was very good even after taking it home. I think it is some of the better Chinese food around here and worth a stop.
