Captain's H S Seafood - Coats

Was short-lived. Was planning dinner, but they are closed for business. Unfortunately, too many places like this come and go. Signs on the bldg read a Mexican place coming in... stay tuned, Coats!

Got take out for our first visit! Excellent food! Hot and plenty of it. Definitely will go back.

Captain's H S Seafood is a hidden gem in the small town of Coats, NC. This small town seafood restaurant offers a variety of seafood (grilled or fried) as well as other tidbits such as pasta, burgers, salads and subs. The staff is friendly and will go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. Not only is the food delicious, but plentiful as well ... not to mention a reasonable price. If you're looking for seafood, whether dine-in or take out, this is the place.

Went today to eat with my father. We came in ordered our food and sat down. While waiting my dad observed that it looked like the tarter sauce and cocktail sauce had never been refrigerated and was probably rotten. Our food came and my father immediately noticed his oysters looked off. Upon smelling them he took his best bet not to eat the rotten oysters. He then smelled the cocktail sauce and tarter sauce and it was RANCID. Out of courtesy not to embarass the owner we wanted for the other couple to leave then approached the owner telling him what had happened. He said he would not charge us for our dollar drinks and would inspect the sauce clearly not to concerned and was offended that we said his food was spoiled. We wasted 22 dollars on spoiled entrees and condiments and if he proceeds to run a business like this he's going to get people killed from bad food.

Heard about this place, newly opened. Decided to try on a Friday night. Fish, fries, all made to order. My date had the regular shrimp platter, with the obligatory fries, hush puppies and slaw. I had the fish sandwich. Ordered flounder but received trout. It was still hot and delicious. My date shared his fries and hush puppies as the portion was ample for two. (FYI, sandwiches are not accompanied by fries, slaw, etc. Everything was hot and fresh. Our server was attentive and overall I'd eat here again. One concern we both had was the cocktail sauce and tarter both sit out on the tables (for how long?? . I avoided those condiments.
