A straightforward yet delicious pub food menu with excellent prices. The deep-fried Oreos fell short in flavor, but the chili starter was so substantial it could easily be a main dish. The undecided platter is ideal for sharing between two or for a particularly hungry individual. The extensive variety of unique dry leaf flavors is a rare find and adds to the overall dining experience.
To top it off, we were taken on a nostalgic trip back to the fabulous '80s with music videos from the era playing in sync with the pub's sound system. Absolutely incredible!
My husband and I were for a trip with his mother and were looking for a place for lunch. We stopped at Ale House and talked to someone outside who turned out to be the owner. He suggested that we check the menu and...with friendly words, he would recommend other places if his menu does not meet our needs. I'm sure he didn't have to. We decided to stay and I must say the food was great! My mother-in-law had the pulled pig, my husband of the chicken burger with Fritten and I had the black bean burger. All were delicious! I love black bean burgers, but it's hard to find a good one. This was clearly homemade and had beautiful aromas and was not dry (as they tend to be). I recommend the Ale House! Oh, and the beer was good too!
To start, we were a party of 7. Meals were brought at 4 different times. We asked for glasses to share Club Soda and they brought dirty glasses, you could see lipstick on some of them. We actually asked for sparkling water, but...I guess they haven't heard of Perrier or San Pellegrino. We specified that one of the guests had serious garlic/onion allergy. They brought salad with onions and just picked them out later. We should have called the dinner off when we ordered. Waitress did not ask how we wanted our burgers done. They were all overcooked, fried pickles were practically burnt. One of the servers did not wear mask properly. Manager's excuse was that he was short staffed. In conclusion, if Cobourg wants to become a tourism oriented town, their restaurateurs need learn a thing or two about manners, culture around the table etc. Overall horrible, with an exception of the server, who beside lack of training did try to do her best.
