Frederick's - Cockermouth

Once we were seated, we received our menus, but after waiting a full 20 minutes until 7:20, no one had come to take our drink order, let alone our food order. We noticed that other tables, which had arrived after us, were being served, and the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy that evening. Another 20 minutes went by, bringing us to 7:40, without anyone checking on us. My partner decided to approach the bar to politely request service. After a few minutes, someone finally took our order for food and drinks without asking how he wanted his steak cooked, and they didn’t even acknowledge the long wait. We then waited yet another 20 minutes with no drinks or food arriving. At that point, my partner and I chose to leave, after he explained our situation to the bar staff. Throughout this horrible experience, we received no apology or offer of compensation for the lack of service. Many of the servers appeared to be quite young, which might explain their poor communication skills, but a simple apology would have gone a long way. In the future, I hope the restaurant considers hiring staff who are more confident and possess better manners, able to acknowledge and apologize to customers who have been neglected without creating a fuss.

Our group of five had a wonderful dining experience. The service was both friendly and efficient, the food was delightful, and the overall value for money was excellent. The atmosphere was charming, making it a perfect end to our short break in the Lakes. I highly recommend this restaurant. The dinner for each person was in the range of £20–30. We rated the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect 5. Recommended dishes include the lasagna and cheesecake.
