Stopped by for lunch during a short visit to Collioure. We ordered the salad with chicken. It was lettuce with some corn thrown in and a piece of sliced chicken breast on top. The chicken was breaded and fried and looked like a precooked, stamped out filet of some kind. Service was surly!
The standard of food here was simply not good enough, had fresh turbot and prawns with potatoes and some other unknown green veg. Turbot was fried and too greasy, potatoes also done the same way. Prawns had disgusting brown liquid pouring out of them when broken open. Wish I had checked trip advisor first! Service was adequate and wine was good, but you can't get that wrong, so not many positives. Would not go back.
There are different ways of judging the quality of an establishment. In this case we just wanted a couple of coffees and some water- a very small order but the serving staff did not know that as we were trying to get their attention. The coffee was quite disappointing and then we had a lot of difficulty in getting them to bring the bill.We might be doing them a disservice but when there are so many choices I do not see why we would want to return and risk further disappointment.
We were impressed with the cheeriness of the staff, the great food - it was exactly what we were after - simply cooked local seafood served in generous portions with hunks of good bread and aioli on the side. We had their medley of razor clams, monkfish and prawns that tasted as if they'd just been plucked out of the sand (minus the grit!). All this with the backdrop of the picturesque harbour, a perfect lunch!
