Perhaps the chap was pining for his homeland. The menu and wine options were chalked on a board. Therefore the diner's choices were limited by the space available to describe them. There didn't seem to be any beers for sale. That was unfortunate, as a beer was what I wanted.I chose a tagliatelle dish, being in the mood for pasta. I know the Italians like their noodles 'al dente', but these were 'al dentissimo', with a chewy texture that I wouldn't expect from a quality restaurant. Very disappointing.I debated whether to have dessert, but couldn't face more gloomy and quasi-hostile service. Anyway, the takeaway gelato from the next street was cheap, of a high standard, and served with a cheery smile.I think this restaurant could do better if it employed keen, friendly, positive staff. And cooked the pasta for a few minutes longer.
As several others have mentioned on here the level of service was poor to the point of insulting.I visited this restaurant with a customer and two other colleagues of mine.We made a spontaneous visit to this place based on it having a an overall 4* review and although the food was fine it was completely let down by the waiter who served us.We felt rushed into making our food choices and was made to feel uncomfortable by his attitude and lack of care. The waiter ended the service by purposely saying 'merci madame' when we were a group of men... Can't really understand why he was like this when we were nothing but polite. The only reason I haven't given this a 1* (which is what I really wanted to do) was because the food was fairly good. Will not be returning.
This is the third time to Collinas but have to say I was disappointed and likely not to return. The waiter was extremely grumpy to the point of being rude. I had the grilled medallions of veal - over salted and overcooked despite asking to be cooked "medium". My colleagues were asked how they wanted their meat cooked though when served the food was handed out all the same. The same waiter forgot to order his main course which of course arrived 10 mins later after we have almost finished dinner. Nothing was said to apologise for the forgotten food. Too poor for a business dinner. Its a shame as the female manager seems to be very kind and friendly
What is it about single women in restaurants that makes the staff want to rush them through their meal as quickly as possible before they are spotted by any other diners? This was the case here. Although the food wasn't bad. A huge green salad arrived as a starter followed by a plate of fairly pedestrian spinach ravioli (the only vegetarian option). The service was hurried (in my case - although, I noticed not to tables with couples/groups) but the wine choice was good and it wasn't too expensive.
After a long day at the Koelnmesse, we needed some good Italian food, and Collina's provided. The food was good - we enjoyed the starter (ham with cream cheese - a German rather than an Italian starter, but it was good). The fish soup was not bad. The Monk fish was tasty, and the entrecote was juicy and nice. The service was okay, not much more than that. The menu was quite limited, but I prefer a restaurant with few dishes done well than many that are not done well.Prices were not cheap, but for a touristic area and a nice restaurant it was understandable. All in all we had a nice time!
