It was odd. Additionally, the bathroom was poorly lit, with only the illuminated mirror providing any light, which made showers feel dim due to the lack of any additional fixtures. Speaking of lighting, the room itself had very limited illumination. There were no overhead light fixtures, just a non-working floor lamp, one table lamp, and two bedside lamps. None of this provided enough light for me to apply makeup; I had to open the curtains for additional light, which unfortunately exposed my room to the rest of the resort. Although there was a lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom that I could plug in, overhead lights were definitely needed. Another letdown was the presence of a refrigerator but no microwave. Considering the price of the lodge, that amenity felt essential, especially since we were there for four nights and often had leftovers from our dining experiences. As for dining and drinks, the food was of great quality, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals at the lodge. They even offered a respectable room service menu. However, there were limited dining options on the resort, and the available times were rather specific and restrictive. The beautiful Mountain Restaurant in the lodge was only used for a breakfast buffet, which featured a fantastic omelet and waffle station along with a wide variety of hot and cold items. We were puzzled as to why it closed at 10 AM and did not open for lunch or dinner, considering its lovely setting. The only option for lunch was at the Gates Grille near the golf course, and dining at the main lodge was off-limits from 10 AM to 4 PM. There was also a small coffee and gift shop that sold sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and a few snacks, which hardly felt like a fine dining experience. Dinner was available at Elevations Bar/Restaurant in the main lodge from 4 to 11 PM, but choices were limited; there were just three main entrees on the menu. We chose the ribeye and baked chicken, both cooked and seasoned perfectly! However, the pasta options were all variations of macaroni and cheese, which felt repetitive. Desserts were good, but my husband and I were both disappointed when we asked for coffee to accompany them and were informed that they do not serve coffee! How does a full-service bar and restaurant not have coffee? What if I wanted Kahlua and coffee? Unfortunately, the small coffee shop had already closed, leaving us without options.
We had a fantastic stay! We really enjoyed the amenities, especially the gym and pool, which were great additions for our family. If we had more time, we would have loved to try out the spa and the beach. Rooms: 5/5.
As for the rooms, they looked nothing like what was advertised. The food and drinks were quite expensive, though they were delicious. It's important to note that, while our room was pleasant, it did not match the online representation when we booked. For example, it lacked basic amenities like trash bags or even trash cans in some areas. Additionally, it didn’t have the jetted tub that was promised. Instead, our “suite” was simply two rooms combined, which I found rather strange. On top of that, the cable options were extremely basic.
I wish I had read reviews of this place before we booked this trip, because most of the unfavorable reviews sound like the same complaints we had. When we went to check in, we were given a room number that was already occupied. The door to their room unfortunately did not latch properly and we were able to open it and walk in on a poor woman who said the same thing happened to her the night before...When we did get to an unoccupied room, it was definitely outdated, especially for the price paid for the stay. The shower rod was actually about to fall off of the wall, but the balcony had a nice view. There were no linen to make up the pull out bed, so we called to request some and additional towels since there were only 3 for our 4 person room. Neither were delivered, even by the next morning. The beach had a horrible stench and was covered in goose poop. Additional poop remained on the pool deck and it was clear that the outdoor areas were rarely cleaned. At one point during the trip, we only received decaf K-cups when our room was cleaned. My husband waited in the line for coffee in the lobby for 20 minutes before abandoning due to 10+ people still in line before him. He approached the front desk and was told there were no more regular K cups available. He went to the restaurant to get coffee and was bombarded by a server who told him he would need to pay for the full buffet breakfast in order to get a cup of coffee. He refused, so she called security, who came, and not surprisingly, sympathized with him.We were compensated by the hotel for these issues, but I wanted to post because this was far from the experience we expected from a reputable resort and for the price to book.
Cheyenne Mountain Resort was the best place to stay. Service and amenities completely worth the price and even exceeded our expectations. The pools were great and heated. The lake activities were so fun! The restaurant was delicious. Service was super friendly. I would return in a heartbeat. Love it!Rooms: Great size rooms. Super cold ac, super comfortable beds.
