Her food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Note... they have gluten-free options and also prepare fried food in separate oils for those with shellfish allergies.
We tried their 1/2-yard beer. It is so good! It is my friend’s birthday. We received a birthday bee! Fish and chips are so good! Everything there meets our expectations!
It had been 34 years since I last visited this establishment. While I was much younger then I had fond memories of the place. It was nice to make a trip back. The atmosphere is fun. Our bartender (I forget her name, but remember that she was a New Yorker), was friendly and a lot of fun. Our food was all delicious (especially the mussels)and the old fashioned was excellent. We were there on a weekday so the piano sing-along was a little lack-luster. It may get more rambunctious on the weekends? The songbook could probably use a little updating- quite a few tunes listed were popular in my great-grandparents day.
The majority of these stars come from the service. We dined at The Golden Bee on June 19th at around 3pm so the pub was almost completely empty, which we liked. The waiters (we arrived during a shift change) were super attentive and even found a set of readers for my mother to be able to read the menu. If you want a preview of the type of service you would get at the main hotel, the pub is a great preview. The food however… I am not sure if the menu is from the 1800’s or if it is just supposed to mimic the kind of pub food you would have had back when the Broadmoor was new, but the taste was quite dated. Nothing we ordered was particularly great and some of our food was just straight up bad (I had a burnt catfish fillet). And for the price, you expect to be wowed. However, the manager did replace the catfish and our drinks were strong so overall we had a good time. And if you are a history buff, the decor is a fun trip back. I especially loved the restroom wallpaper and tile.
