The new Bierkeller brick and mortar brewery took their product and services/atmosphere to the next level! The food and Bier is amazing! I’ve had great German beer at Halfway Crooks in ATL, Wren House in Phoenix Arizona, The Olde Meck in CLT, and Gilde Brewing in CLT, but Scott Burgess’ Bier at Bierkeller takes the cake for me! Hands down the best and most authentic since my visit to Germany! Not to mention the food is amazing and truly authentic, and the service is fantastic. This is truly an excellent experience, not just Bier and not just an ordinary brewery. 5’s all the way!
In town from NC to take our Grandson to his first Gamecock Football game and we're fortunate to find BBC. Drink and food were very good, atmosphere along the canal also very nice. But, what really stood out for us was the staff. In one word, EXCEPTIONAL! Look forward to returning. Thanks for your hospitality.
They have great German beers here Scott is a perfectionist you will not be disappointed. The food is awesome too. And you're on the river front. What more would you want
The beer is outstanding. The food is legit and delicious. It takes me back to my days in Germany. The sausage, bread, schnitzel, and cucumber salad are jut like you find them in Germany. The pricing is very reasonable. Why the rating? Because of their process for service which is horrible. We went Saturday at noon. Grabbed 3 Gluhweins and a beer. The Gluhwein was sensational too. We go inside and long lines. That's OK but they make no sense. The beer line merges with the food line and its a complete Stau (traffic jam). The food line was so slow. I know it's fresh, but they need a better system. I go outside to refill gluhwein and beer. I stand in line and grab a beer. They won't take a return on a gluhwein cup at the beer station. You have to stand in a separate line for gluhwein. That line was crawling. By the time I got to the register, I had finished 80% of my beer. I return a gluhwein cup and refill 2 for my family. We finished our drinks and decided it was not worth 30-45m to wait in line to return our cups. I wanted to keep one cup but not two plastic beer steins and 2 gluhwein cups. Now I am out $18. You should have a dedicated person in the courtyard to collect returns and provide refunds. No reason to wait behind everyone buying drinks. BTW inconsistencies in gluhwein portions. Is it half filled cup or 3/4. It was dissapointing to pay for a 1/2 cup of Gluhwein. Great, great food but they need to work on their service system.
This afternoon I met some friends at Bierkeller's first-ever Christmas Market, and all I can really say is that I had a great experience, and I can see that they will only get better from here. Lines were long, and there was perhaps a bit of awkwardness at the points of sale, but the staff were doing everything they could to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Again, this was their very first big event in their new home, and they took on a huge task. As they continue to learn and grow, I expect great things out of these folks. I sampled a few dishes, tried at least 3 of the beers, and just marveled at what they have been able to pull off over the last year.Situated as it is in an insulated community, a trip to Bierkeller truly feels as if you are stepping out of Columbia entirely, yet you are literally right at the nexus between Downtown and West Columbia.I'll be returning at a calmer time to get the full experience, rest assured.Kudos to you, Bierkeller!
