Parking might be easier on Lady Street. Now that I know they serve fresh-squeezed margaritas, I'm definitely planning to return soon. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.
You definitely need to try this place! Sabor is a beloved restaurant with a huge following in Charlotte, and they’ve successfully expanded to multiple locations. We're fortunate that they chose to open one in Columbia! Seriously, you should dine here and make sure to check out their daily specials (like select $1 tacos every Tuesday, among others)! A little tip: it can be tricky to find the location on Gervais, and it’s easy to overlook. To avoid paying for parking, take Lady Street to the area in front of M Vista; you’ll see designated Sabor parking across the street at PNC Bank.
Let me highlight the food. (While the service was good, it was the food that truly impressed me.) At first, I was a bit hesitant, thinking everything would be smothered in cheese. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find they offered authentic tacos with a range of protein options. I sampled the ground beef, grilled chicken, and grilled veggie tacos, each one delicious. The salsas—pineapple habanero, green monster, and a creamy mayonnaise—really enhanced the flavors. The chips and guacamole were excellent, and the churros were crispy and delightful. I was also surprised to find the churros filled, as I'm used to the traditional style that comes without any filling.
Sabor is a Charlotte based South American style restaurant located in the Vista. While it is a chain restaurant and maintains a bit of that chain feel, the food is above average, especially for this type Central American-style chain restaurant. For example, the tortillas used for their tacos are far superior to those you will find at similarly situated restaurants at the same price point. The servings of meat to tortilla ratio are sublimely generous and I hope they remain so. Yet, the most enjoyable dishes are on its street food menu. The empanadas were good, the arepa tasty, and the nachos were gigantic. While the food is generally good; currently, Sabor seems to be suffering from its own growing pains. The staff seems unfamiliar with their system and their menu, which caused three separate mistakes on the same order. If they grow out of those pains I hope to seem Sabor stand in the area as a better alternative to some of the same type of SA/Mex restaurants up and down the Gervais.
Sabor is delicious. The staff is friendly, helpful, and quick. Will definitely be visiting again!!!
