This pains me to leave this review. My wife and I found this place over a year ago and it became our favorite place in the Butte/Colusa county area to go to for dinner. It was great. Service was quick and they had my favorite menu item, the Knuckle Sammich. It was delicious. After a while it went away and I was very sad and disappointed but tried finding other things. Then the “incident” happened and the owners were forced to sell. Now comes this week’s experience. We knew that it changed to table service and we were excited to go back. We were seated at a table quickly and told a server would be right with us. Nothing. It was around 15 minutes and we gave up and got someone to come take drink orders. When we did get them there was no apology, no sorry about that or anything. There was only 2-3 tables occupied and there were at least 2 servers in the restaurant so they weren’t slammed. Once we got our drinks we ordered food not too long after that. We got a plate of steak tips as an appetizer and those were actually pretty good. My Knuckle Sammich has been long gone off the menu so I’ve tried a few different things. This day I tried the BBQ Brisket Poutine. A year ago the poutine was completely different and was actually poutine. Now it’s fries with beer cheese that has become flavorless and the brisket was dry and tasteless. Poutine is supposed to be made with a gravy (and it used to be) not a beer cheese. It was not good at all and 80% of it went uneaten. My wife got her usual Big Chicken Mac and it was as good as it always has been. Couple other dishes that were ordered by my sister and her kids were decent but not great. One of the worst things now is the amount of flies in the restaurant! It’s DISGUSTING! I know there’s water and it’s a swampish area but there were well over 100 flys in the dining area. Surely something can be done about this. I don’t even want to know how many are in the kitchen. Over $100 wasted and I felt so bad bringing my sister all the way out here from Lincoln. Food- 2/5 Just because some people enjoyed their food but 3 of us did not at all. Service- 1/5 Server wasn’t pleasant and took 15 minutes to get a simple drink order after we had to go find someone. Atmosphere- 2/5 The flies killed it. It still feels like the old place and table service can work, but servers need to be attentive and nice. I hate to say that I won’t be returning. This was my favorite place.
