Check out their Lunch Specials. For under $10. you can get a pretty decent lunch. One of the Sushi Chefs waited on us. He was the only waiter. He took our order quickly. Service was a little slow. It took a really long time to get our check because he was the only waiter and was waiting on two other tables. We both ordered Box Lunches which was more than enough to eat. It came with Salad, Soup and a Spring Roll. It also had your choice of Sushi Rolls. They tasted fresh and yummy. I especially liked the ones wrapped in seaweed. We both enjoyed our meals.
This is just a straight up Japanese place with a high quality sushi chef and some damn good fish. The place is not fancy or really pretty, but the sushi is DAMN GOOD. Flavor, texture and TEMPERATURE of sushi when it hits the table are some of the major keys that come down to whether it's a place to come back to or not. PSA! The Spicy Tuna Nachos are LEGIT! Get those NOW. I am salivating as I write this review out. The menu could use some font, photos and separation work to make it easier on the eyes. It's a proven psychological point in marketing the more a patron has to concentrate to read a menu the less they order. Next time I come here on an empty stomach after lifting weights it is GAME ON BRO!!!
I really liked this small unassuming restaurant in a strip of stores on the west side of University drive. We were in the area and looking for sushi/Japanese dinner when our yelp app showed us this location. We got there early just a bit after they opened at five o 'clock. We were immediately greeted and welcomed to choose wherever we wanted to sit. The menu is quite large. There were two blackboards with specials that we didn 't even look at... and an extra separate menu sheet covered on both sides with numbered sushi roll specials. After we ordered, we noticed there was an early bird dinner deal that was quite reasonably priced. I started with a small house salad with ginger dressing. Followed by a shrimp tempura appetizer. In addition to two shrimp there were two slices of sweet potato, a piece of broccoli, and one of zucchini. The tempura batter was lacy, light, and crispy. It came with its own small bowl of dipping sauce. As my main , I had a number 39 roll a crab and mayo with massaging mix in thin cucumber wrapping (no seaweed or rice). It was served in the sweet vinegar sauce that sunomono comes with. A very refreshing and light ending. My husband had a combo sunomono salad to start it had crab and shrimp and octopus thinly sliced over cucumbers in sweet vinegar sauce. For his main he had a Michelle roll with (raw) sushi hamachi. He really liked it. Along with his meal, he had a large hot sake. Prices are quite reasonable. Much less expensive than many other Japanese restaurants we 've eaten at. Service was accommodating. We are already planning a return visit. I 'm hoping to try one of their soft shell crab rolls or one of their salmon ones or... you get the idea.
This is such a great sushi place! It 's in a very small strip mall, right next to the dry cleaners. Upon asking the owner, I found out that N U stands for North University. The owner is always there behind the sushi bar, which keeps everything consistent and delicious! We always start with a Tuna Tataki, which is topped with plenty of fresh scallions, grated ginger, and chopped garlic. It 's so perfect every time! We 've also tried Fabulous Tuna, which is Tuna Tataki with a different sauce, and is plated very pretty. It is great, but the Tataki reigns supreme. Even the Crunchy Tuna app is interesting and yummy with Japanese potatoes mixed in for that unknown crunch! I recommend trying all of these Tuna apps! Their ginger house salad is delicious. Great homemade dressing! I was excited to see they offer Harusame Salad, but this was a FAIL. Great texture, no flavor... it really fell flat for me. We 've tried many rolls, and we have many favorites! Tracey: tuna, cuke, cc, avocado inside out with masago. We have added jalapeno, and it 's the perfect kick. They make a great JB Tempura Roll, and we always have to share one! The Mexican Roll is the perfect Shrimp Tempura roll, with spicy mayo and avocado. The Dave Roll is topped with Tuna and Avocado, and inside is Shrimp Tempura and more tuna. It 's a solid choice also! The Conch Dynamite, which is baked conch inside of a roll, is yummy, and very reminiscent of a sushi place very special to me! I 've had it 2x, and really enjoy it! Despite the name being pronounced NEW , this place is as old school as it gets. This is why I truly love this place! Full of traditional Japanese kitchen appetizers, the menu is just full of so many choices! You could honestly read it for a full 30 minutes! The prices are very reasonable, and the quality is high! There is only one waitress, and she is nice and provides awesome service! You can tell she has worked her for many years. This is definitely our go-to local sushi place, and it 's a little dangerous that we live only 5 minutes away!
This place would cost a lot more if it was located in a trendy spot downtown. Lucky for me Yuji the owner likes where he is at and do not overcharge his great quality product. It 's quaint, small so don 't expect fancy. What you can expect is a great meal by the hands of an expert.
