Have loved everything about castellote! a charming little community with atmospheric scenery. pool in the hotel was w refreshing after a day trip, like the spacious bathroom. I'm glad I stopped here. defo go to the burg when they feel energetic great prospects and additional bonus of an aqueduct on the other side!
Traveling through Spanish drive 40 or 50 years ago you found restaurants with menus and decoration similar to those found today in this combination hostal / hotel in castellote. this version is a little airy and with modern air conditioning/heating. the menus/cards offer traditional Spanish preparations with only one hauch of updating in the presentation. the migas, grilled lamb shed and salat (i.e. sparingly were skillful, although fresh white were in season) were very straight forward full, but nothing spectacular. the service was simply reasonable in a room too big for any kind of intimate or business meeting, as it is loud when full. But showed initiative when we showed unmistakably for the lack of light dessert offers, then fresh strawberries were served with orange juice. Overall, this is a place where good Spanish traditional or comfort food can be found, but nothing that shows originality or creativity in substance or presentation. Why it is listed as a bib Gourmand preference in the Michelin Guide, enigmatically appears.
