From the moment my wife and I entered this elegant restaurant, we were impressed by the sophisticated atmosphere. Our evening began with expertly crafted martini cocktails that prepared us for the culinary journey ahead. The menu offered a variety of delicious options, with my wife choosing a twice-baked soufflé and myself enjoying scallops with black pudding. The main courses were equally delightful, with my wife's halibut and my filet of beef paired perfectly with an Argentinian Malbec. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, adding to the overall experience. The owners, a husband and wife team, clearly have a passion for creating exceptional dishes. The evening ended with a Cointreau liqueur coffee, leaving us feeling satisfied and content. The Penrose Kitchen is more than just a restaurant – it is a place where diners can enjoy high-quality cuisine in a refined setting. Whether you are a local or a visitor to Cornwall, this establishment offers a chance to experience fine dining at its best.
Hidden away off the beaten track, Penrose Kitchen is a true gem that is worth seeking out. From the warm welcome to the superb food and cooking, every aspect of the dining experience is top-notch. While not cheap, the £60 per person price tag for a three-course gourmet meal and a glass of wine is well worth it. We dined on the deck overlooking the lily ponds on a lovely warm evening, and couldn't get enough of the just baked, warm homemade bread. Penrose Kitchen is a unique and slightly quirky restaurant that exemplifies Cornwall's culinary excellence. Fabulous dining experience overall.
We decided to have lunch at this restaurant, even though we are locals and had never been before. The location was great and the food and service were equally fantastic. It was the best dining experience we've had in a while, and we will definitely be returning with friends and family soon!
I’m reluctant to do this review as I’m not sure I want too many people to find out about this place, it might get too busy!? Forewarned about the cheese soufflé so had very high expectations…it was as good as they said! My bass main course was even better, a wonderful plate of interesting tastes put together with much attention to detail the fish cooked to perfection, Ben clearly knows how to cook food simply one of my most favourite plates of fish in a long while. Beautiful yet subtle personable service throughout and made to feel very ‘warmly’ welcome. Left here with a feeling like we had just experienced something a bit special…but we weren’t anywhere near the south east of England, we were just outside our home town of Truro!! : Thank you.
We had a wonderful experience at the Penrose Kitchen. We were greeted by Sam, who was friendly and extremely accommodating. The menu provided a great selection of fish and meat dishes, all of which were served with carefully selected sides and vegetables, that complemented the main part of the dish. The starter cheese soufflé was a mouth watering delight and I can see why it always remains of every menu-just gorgeous! We were with our adult daughter, who is gluten intolerant and the majority of the menu was suitable for her or could be easily adapted. Unfortunately none of us had room for pudding, so next time we visit, we will refrain from a starter and try these! Overall a faultless evening out in a lovely atmosphere, with wonderful food. We will definitely be back and bring our friends! Thank you.
