Watching the sunset over the stadium and water was a pleasant way to enjoy my margarita. I appreciated the counter space around the edges as well as the comfortable seating equipped with heat lamps. Just a heads up: you can't bring leftover food from another restaurant into the bar, so be aware that your takeout box will be taken away!
There is no cover charge and no dress code here. If you can walk in from K Street, you'll find your way to the lobby and be directed to the 22nd floor for a fantastic view of the city skyline from the rooftop, but it was an expensive experience for the short 30 minutes we were there. Perhaps this was an honest mistake or due to lax security and the quality of staff during the off-peak season, as they suggested. We informed other guests who rode down from the 22nd floor about what happened and advised them to check their accounts, as we suspected there might be a skimmer on one of the card readers at the bar. We are currently waiting for a callback from Marriott's Accounting Department to resolve the issue before we proceed with leaving further reviews, while our financial institution investigates the fraudulent charge linked to Altitude. We hope they have security cameras to review and identify the culprits, in case this was more than just a human error.
However, my overall rating is low due to a frustrating incident. I arrived with a strawberry drink, unaware that outside beverages weren’t permitted. The supervisor approached me and abruptly took the drink from my hands, which I found quite rude. Even one of the staff members who delivered my food commented on how disrespectful it was. While I acknowledged that I was partly in the wrong, it felt unreasonable that they tossed my drink without any consideration. I would have appreciated it if they had simply saved it for me to take when I left, especially since it was nearly full and I had paid $4-6 for it. I spoke with the hotel manager on duty, hoping for some understanding, but instead, I received a half-hearted resolution: a complimentary water bottle, which hardly matched the value of my drink. Perhaps they could have offered a discount on my $18 pretzel instead. I don’t typically like to complain or create issues, but I’ve never felt so disrespected. While the restaurant has a lot to offer, it was unfortunate that the security staff became the main focus of my experience instead of the beautiful views or enjoyable vibes.
While searching for rooftop venues with happy hour extending beyond 6 pm, I stumbled upon the exceptional Altitude bar, conveniently located next to Petco Park. Their happy hour runs until 7 pm on weekdays, offering a diverse array of options, including wine, beer, well drinks, and margaritas. I opted for the wine and margarita, both of which exceeded my expectations with a delightful flavor and perfect alcohol percentage. The rooftop bar boasts breathtaking views, providing a captivating backdrop. The ample seating options and the presence of a cozy fireplace create a relaxed ambiance. I'm eagerly anticipating my return to Altitude, drawn to the unique vibe and the prospect of enjoying a picturesque sunset while sipping on delightful margaritas. It truly promises to be a memorable experience.
Excellent rooftop bar. Beautiful views especially at sunset and when there's a game at Petco Chilly at night but there's a firepit to keep you warm. Had a delicious champagne strawberry mojito. Minus one star as there really wasn't much food choices.
