Cantinho Transmontano

A very good site to eat out, at a modrratelly low price (10 Typical portuguese cuisine with a warm service and atmosphere.

We were lucky enough to have this small local restaurant, Cantinho Transmontano' recommended to us by our hotel, (Real Residencial) from which it was just around the corner. They serve mainly traditional Portuguese food in simple surroundings. We had 2 generous-sized starters and main courses....with a carafe of local wine for under €20 for 2 people. Bargain. They were also one of the few restaurants which served cider, if that matters to you. Most of our fellow diners seemed to be Portuguese family groups, which we liked. The menus were in Portuguese but the staff had passable English and were helpful. Highly recommended for budget travellers.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday, they have a small selection to arrange that changes regurlarly. the staff is friendly and eating is great. they have a terrace in the courtyard. you sangria (red wine) is great.

A friend of mine recommended this place, so I decided to try it. eating was good, I have no complaining there, small menu, 4/5 fish dishes and 4/5 meat dishes, so probably not everyone fits. the service was however appalling. As soon as we went in the waiter, there was a terrible attitude. when we were shown the tables, the guy murmured about oktopus, to which I replied ok, then he said I didn't talk to you in a rather aggressive ton, we should go out immediately, but stupidly we stayed. we sat for age groups before we even got the menus, then another 10 minutes to put the table. 10 more minutes for our order and it was good half an hour at the arrival, before we even got a few drinks, we finally got our food, but every time I asked for something, it seemed as if the waiter had fallen for me, everything I got ok, yes it comes, I didn't forget most of the paintings that he just avoided contact with the eyes, and I didn't even see him. the dinge came in tropics and drabs, I felt better to realize that he did the same to all the other tables around us, so it was not personal at least. we went without a whisper or a coffee, I couldn't get out fast enough. I regularly go to costa, but I will not return to the restaurant.

I have visited this restaurant in recent years. in this year my experience was but dirty. I was served what I am convinced was eating yesterday, something reheated. I had pork, hard and dry, with almost cold french french fries and husked, I was definitely not. to touch. a shame.
