I stopped by for an impromptu Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. Despite the restaurant being full and a large group occupying most of the tables, the staff managed to find us a secluded spot near the bar. Our Sunday roast was served promptly and was delicious. The meal was reasonably priced and the service was friendly. I will definitely be returning when I am in the area again in the summer.
We went for dinner on a Sunday. The historic pub was lovely and we had booked a table online. However, when we arrived, they were not aware of our booking as they hadn't checked. We were seated away from the other diners, out of view. The meal was terrible, overcooked and cold. The only good thing was the syrup pudding. We will not be returning and will not be recommending this place to our friends.
Called in here for the first time today on our way to Swindon. Beautiful century building with a very good atmosphere. Pub is run by a family who were all very friendly and attentive. I had pie of the day (chicken and bacon) with...chips and vegetables with came out piping hot and was very tasty. My wife had hunters chicken on a bed of sautéed potatoes which she also found hot and tasty. Both came in good portions and we would happily eat here again. This is an Arkells pub so also offered a good range of cask ales. We will be back!
Visited this pub today, the moment we walked in the staff were so friendly. I had hunters chicken , wow! The best I have tasted, so freshly prepared, no fatty bacon just perfection. Even had a pudding, which again was lovely. Would visit again as a...totally brilliant meal , friendly staff, and would give more than Star without hesitation.
