We have just enjoyed, really thoroughly enjoyed, a weekend in Barnard Castle. I could go on, and on, about all the things there is to do in Barnard Castle and there is plenty! a good excuse to go back. But this is a story about the 3 Horseshoes. We arrived mid evening Friday the place is heaving, primarily with locals its seems everyone from Barnard Castle meets here on a Friday. Its a cross between the Cheers Bar in Boston and Central Perk in Friends. Everyone knows one another. It was busy, but despite not having booked we were found a table, treated like royalty. Great food, great beer, great band (but there is plenty of scope to be at the other end of the building if live music isn't your thing), but what makes a business, always, is the people. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Ellie deserves to be singled out for outstanding service throughout the weekend. We ate here breakfast and dinner throughout the weekend. And we can't wait to go back. Thank you to everyone who made our precious weekend such a success.
My wife ordered the fish and chips at the restaurant and was very disappointed with the dish. The batter was extremely hard, causing the fish inside to stick to it and making it difficult to chew. She found it almost inedible. It was meant to be a special treat, so she didn't mention her dissatisfaction until we got home. If she had told me earlier, I would have refused to pay for it.
My wife and I had an incredible meal at this restaurant last night! The staff were fantastic and provided A* service. The food completely blew us away - the Breaded Brie was crispy, gooey, and melted in our mouths. Both Filet Steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, like butter, and were a perfect medium rare. The chips were also delicious! To top it off, the Creme Brulee was amazing. The head chef even came out to talk to us and explained the micro herb on our desserts. Overall, we would give this restaurant a 10/10!
