Second, it might have been a new waitress but service was a bit slow. She more than made up for it in personality and help with the menu. Make reservations, this place stays busy. Call the day before you go or before you decide to go. I’m not a tea drinker but if you are they must have over a hundred to choose from. We were there for lunch and started with tea and hot cross buns. My wife liked the tea and the buns were delicious. We both had the Bangers and Mash which came with a salad, excellent. For desert we had the cheesecake which was quite good and had some other little treats that came with it. As far as the wait goes after we saw our main course I had the feeling they cooked it fresh when ordered. We will go back. I’m sure they’ll fix the fly issue in that one small area.
Just wanted to share what an amazing experience I had at The English Tea Room last Friday. I (along with a small group of ladies) attended the Downton Abbey Tea and Trivia night at the Tea Room. It was a set menu so I was already nervous and prepared to go home hungry. In the days leading up to the event, I called several times to remind them of my gluten allergy (Celiac disease) and shellfish/fish allergy. They assured me they would take care of me. Once there, I again mentioned it to our hostess and waitress. As I do wherever I go, I asked for the chef to come to the table. Less than 5 minutes later, the main chef (Tim) came to the table, asked all about my allergies, and went back to the kitchen to prepare a plate just for me. Even though I didn’t get to try the dinner they had prepared for the set menu, they served me a beautiful and delicious dinner plate and dessert all gluten free and safe for my allergies. It was a WONDERFUL experience and I highly recommended The English Tea Room!!!
Always an absolute joy to bring new friends here! I highly recommend reservations, this place fills up quick especially on weekends. There is not a better place around for a huge selection of teas and the best scones around.
We were *those* people who show up half an hour before closing, and our waitress was still incredibly nice to us : My high expectations for the selection were blown away! I've never seen so many teas on a menu in my life, and it was a bit overwhelming. I decided to stick to the traditional English blacks and had the Windsor Castle the Lady Londonderry. They were perfectly steeped and i enjoyed them both. I had a hard time deciding between scones and trying a crumpet for the first time. The waitress let me order one of each, and i choose the vanilla scone; my friends chose the savory scones and let me try one. The scones were delicious, and i was super pleased with the crumpet, too. If i went back today, it'd still be a tough choice. We finished the visit off with tea to go and some loose leaf for tomorrow morning. The whole experience was absolutely delightful, and worth the hour drive. I'll definitely be returning in my future visits to New Orleans.
Today was my first time here. My sister and I brought my mom to celebrate her birthday. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved sitting in a room away from the crowd, it felt so quaint and cozy! It was special the staff knew it was my moms birthday and brought her a cupcake with a candle. The food and tea was delicious! I can’t wait to go back. Thank you for a great first experience!
