La Carreta - Covington

Ate outside by the fountain. Server mixed up our order. Our waiter was attentive. Food was tasty. Pictures are Monterrey red fish and birria tacos.

This was our first time here and everything was wonderful! All the staff was super nice and friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Great for a family night out. The salad bowl was fresh and the birria tacos were delish! The quesadilla was a nice size that you can get with or without the beans and rice (which were also really good! The salsa was fresh and chunky with a small bit of kick. Highly recommend the brownie or fried ice cream for dessert. No nuts on the brownie and drizzled with chocolate, it also came with a nice scoop of ice cream. The fried ice cream sat in a light cinnamon sugar dusted shell which was really nice for scooping. Would happily come back again next time we’re over here!

We usually order the same thing, but the quality is not consistent. Sometimes, the tortilla soup is too salty. Sometimes, it's missing the cheese. Otherwise it's good.

We found the food and service, provided by Chelsea J as noted on the receipt, to be very good. However, due to COVID-19 precautions, we were seated outside on the far side of the dining area. Unfortunately, US 190 was just a few feet away, and it was exceedingly noisy. As the sun began to set, it shone directly into my eyes, making it uncomfortable to enjoy our meal. The wind also made it difficult, as napkins and sweetener packets kept blowing around. Overall, it was quite an unpleasant experience instead of a nice dining outing. I strongly feel that management should consider installing a barrier on the side of the dining area facing the highway. Such a barrier could help reduce the noise, block the harsh sunlight, and shield us from the wind. I was surprised that no such barrier was in place to enhance the comfort of their guests.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant on the Northshore. We visit almost every week for their $2 Taco Tuesday. While there can be a wait during peak hours, they turnover tables quickly, making it worth it for the delicious food. They offer free chips and salsa, and the staff is excellent at keeping your drinks refilled. I'm quite particular about my margaritas and queso, and La Carreta always delivers perfectly. The atmosphere is lively, and the extensive menu has reasonable prices across the board. What’s not to love?
