We have been cruising to Cozumel since the 80's. After our favorite restaurant where we used to go for ceviche closed approximately 10 years ago, we were referred to La Bahia Del Caribe by a local. We were not disappointed at all. It had even better ceviche (we like the mixed one but including the lion fish) and at even more affordable prices. With the stronger dollar, its even better now. We travel to Cozumel 2-3 times / year and we never miss an opportunity to have our lunch here. One time they made us grilled octopus and it was also delicious they are a fish exchange for the locals so you are getting very fresh fish. They also offer us an appetizer shrimp broth that makes your mouth water just thinking about it. Its location is a bit out of the way and adjacent to a cemetery, but very cozy and simple with good service. They take credit cards. you should map it out before going. Its a 10 minute walk from the main plaza.
Very good hole in the wall pescaderia. I only gave it 4 stars because I'm comparing it to another pescaderia. However it's very good and I would go again. It's an easy walk if you're staying in town. With most of these places that are off the beaten path, you're better off, sometimes by as much as 25%, to bring pesos. I had the whole fried fish and it was prepared perfectly.
We visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch. Like the other reviews say, it's off the main tourist area but perfectly safe to visit and easy to find (5th avenue, down by the cemetery). The staff there are friendly and welcoming, speak a little English so you can navigate. Service was good, food presentation was also very good. We did enjoy our meal (I had a whole fried fish (red snapper), hubby had fried garlic fish (sea bass). I wanted the smaller fish b/c it was lunch and they said they didn't have any more of the small sized fish, I'd have to get the next bigger fish which was 60p more (which was fine but when the bill came it was actually 110p more) so not sure if this is a selling strategy or the real deal. Did enjoy my meal and hubby did too though he though his sea bass was a little under cooked. Overall, good meal. For 2 meals and 2 waters (at 15p each), we though $25 USD was a lot. Felt like there were different prices for locals and tourist, there is no way local family can afford $25 for lunch. Don't mind folks making money but also don't like being overcharged. We probably would not go back b/c of the pricing....
This place is a hidden gem. We were told this is fishermen's co-op and we had the best seafood there! It is away from the touristy area and we saw a good mixture of locals and foreigners. They had fresh fish everyday; they were very generous with the potion; everything tasted amazing! It ended up being our favorite restaurant on the week long trip! We've had grouper, lion fish, snapper, shrimp, cooler in various ways and nothing disappointed! Their ceviche is amazing too!
