Spice Corner - Croydon

Spice Corner has since closed and is now operating under the new name Shah Karahi with new management. The food is very nice, fresh, and mouth-watering.

I ordered a chicken curry from that place with a naan and a couple of sides, but the following day I experienced a severe stomachache and had to visit the restroom frequently. I later discovered that the restaurant had been shut down because of a mouse infestation. This experience has turned me off from ever returning to this restaurant.

Not for the squeamish, maybe, but Brain Masala was the days special, and since I haven't had one for five years that got ordered. It was dearer than expected at about £8.95, £1.95 for the rice, but was very generously proportioned with a nice oniony and subtle spice flavour. The meal was impressive enough to say I would go back. Had been about two years ago here and was pleased with a chapli kebab then. Is conveniently located for the 197 and 410 buses just a couple of stops from East Croydon BR. Will return.

Ordered through Uber Eats. In short, no fried onions in rice as described and the Tarka dal was so watery and tasteless. Even more tasteless was the Chicken Madras. It had no heat whatsoever, despite being labelled as ‘hot’ The sauce was thin and runny and the chicken cubes were bone dry as if they had just been added last minute minute and not marinated or cooked properly with the sauce. The order should have arrived between 25 and 35 minute but took 50 minutes. Disappointing and will never use or recommend.
