Baldo's Ice Cream - Dallas/Ft Worth AP

We wanted to grab a cold treat but showed up to see the shop empty.

It's seriously solo incredible. Our favorite in fact. Even something as simple as cookies n cream is life changing. Can't wait for them to re open.

Four of us stopped in for some ice cream on Saturday evening, June 10. We ordered a six-flavor ice cream flight, which is served on mini cones. Our flavor choices were chocolate, cotton candy, peanut butter cup, pistachio, strawberry, and vanilla bean. I latched on to the vanilla bean cone and didn't share. Everyone else in our party is more flavor-adventurous, so no one seemed to mind my rudeness. The ice cream seemed to be universally appreciated. My vanilla bean was fine. My enjoyment of the entire experience was tempered a bit by two things. First, the friendly young woman who dipped our cones very lightly placed the ice cream on the cones, making me wonder how in the heck they were going to stay on the cone when consumed. Second, the ice cream didn't seem to be frozen adequately. It was dripping down the cones from the moment it was first scooped. That also caused me some unnecessary stress. Perhaps I'm simply too highly-strung. I left with a very mediocre impression of Baldo's, but the other three members of our party seemed to enjoy it with no reservations.

I am so happy to have them in Casa Linda. The ice cream is wonderful. But I have to say they are closed most of the time I go by. They used to have longer hours and there was usually a sticky note saying they would be right back. Which meant they were down at Starbucks most the time. But now they have shorter hours and they are still doing notes on the door. I've been there twice this week and the sign says closed for maintenance. I'm afraid if they want open their doors for business they want be there much longer!

What happened!? A few years ago, I tried the ice cream at the hillcrest location and was highly impressed. This time around, almost every flavor was sterile of any flavor. I had to make sure I didnt have a stopped up nose because nothing was registering for the majority of the flavors I sampled. A sad day to see that the product they serve now is mediocre at best.
