It was amazing. Fantastic everything- such a great dining experience that I'm sad that he is now closed.
My daughter turned 27 and thought she would get some people together for dinner at... Twenty Seven. I usually don't frequent the Deep Ellum neighborhood of downtown Dallas, but didn't want to miss the celebration. I am so very glad we went here! The bartender, Sheldon, is a true craft cocktail artisan. There is a chalkboard menu of specials, but he can handle anything with great style. The drinks were outstanding. Back in the kitchen is Chef DAT (his initials David Anthony Temple) is a making fabulous appetizers, small plates (hearty and easy to share) as well as being accommodating for gluten free diners. We started with spiced nuts, pickled veggies, and ahi tuna plates for our group of 25. Then everyone went on to enjoy gumbo with miniature corn muffins, cheddar grits with blackened shrimp, fried green tomatoes, cheddar grits with ratatouille (for the vegetarians)... and a lovely wine selection. This place has a cool vibe (the restrooms are hip and immaculately clean), the owners are true hosts providing a great dining experience in a small, corner spot... just perfect. FYI the menu changes often as Chef is dedicated to using the freshest ingredients
Was a very busy night and they could not handle the crowd. The food was good, but I wasn't blown away. Really cool eclectic vibe though.
The only reason i am leaving one star is because I cant leave zero. Had a reservation at 11:30 for hip hop brunch for easter sunday. We arrived 5 minutes early to a fairly empty restaurant and were left to stand at the front door for 5 minutes before any of the staff acknowledged us. After talking to the bar we were seated and that was the last time any staff stopped by our table. After sitting there for 20 minutes without even waters being dropped off at our table we decided to leave. 2 parties of walk ins were greeted and seated at the bar and had drinks by the time we left. I am completely at a loss as to how disorganized and ineffective the front of the house staff were.
