Totally enjoyed the family cruise. Captain was funny and I learned a lot. oysters were delicious. freshest thing we've ever had. I recommend this trip to all!
We took the Oyster and Seal cruise this week and while the ride was very pleasant and scenic, and the captain/narrator informative and sometimes funny, there were a few things missing from the narration which I thought would have made the trip better and richer. Nothing was ever said about the length of the Damariscotta River, nor of its sources or where it empties out. None of the seabirds were mentioned, except for a very brief nod to cormorants................meanwhile, there were laughing gulls, terns, and other species, all of whom have fabulously interesting lives, and whom were never pointed out or discussed. Additionally, while this was sub-titled a seal cruise, we never saw one seal hauled out on a ledge and only one or two very very briefly in the water, which the majority of passengers did not see. Nothing was mentioned about seals, their lives, etc. etc. Zilch. In my opinion, there was way too much information about oysters and very little information about anything else ecological............ I write from the position of being a naturalist and Audubon boat cruise narrator, so this is obviously a very subjective review.
We took the oyster cruise I didn’t feel like it was too crowded or touristy, and there was a good selection of drinks! Captain/tour guide was knowledgeable but it’s not so loud that you can’t talk to the people you’re with.
Great experience on the tour. Our guide was very informative and had a great sense of humor that I really enjoyed. The only downside was that a large group of 15 people turned the tour into a party for a birthday celebration. However, we were able to find seats at the front of the boat and the weather was perfect. It would have been nice to stop and chat with another company along the way, but it was still interesting to see them in action as we passed by.
