We reserved a table based on excellent reviews from local press. Our impression of food was mixed. Salad with salmon roe was just bad. Roe was so salty you could not taste anything else. Brussel sprout plate was ok but not great. Maybe too much dressing. ? Chicken was, again, ok but nothing special. Mashed potatoes excellent. A real problem for me was the wine service. Wine is served in really small juice glasses. I suppose this is part of the bistro decor. Fine, but you really should be able to taste the wine correctly. At $9 a pour they can do better. Overall was an ok meal but I won 't break a leg returning. There are much better places in Philadelphia
The hashbrowns here are fabulous, as I expected them to be based on reviews. Eggs were so so and coffee was not good. Service was fine and the decor is cool.
Had dinner at the restaurant with colleagues. It was really good. The service was outstanding. We dined on a Monday evening so it was quiet and not crowded. The cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, breads and cheeses were delicious. I had a rib dish that was really good. My colleagues ordered the mushroom and noodles dish, the shrimp and tortilla dish, and the squash dish. Everyone raved about their food. The almond cake and ice cream was delicious. The pumpkin tart dessert dish was not good, which is my only negative comment. Will be back when I am back in Philly.
I reserved a table for my family of four and ordered the fried chicken and pork beef lasagna days in advance of our visit as required. It was my husband’s birthday dinner and he and my boys generally enjoy fried chicken and my husband had been craving a good lasagna for a while so this seemed like a great option, not to mention it’s on the top restaurants list in Philly. We arrived to a cute, plant filled restaurant looking forward to our meal. The hostess greeted us and asked our name for the reservation. Upon giving her our name, she lets us know that we’re all set to get the fried chicken and mushroom lasagna what?! did she say « mushroom » b/c I ordered the meat lasagna over the phone as my husband HATES mushrooms and it’s his birthday dinner). I let her know that the order was for meat lasagna and she looked a little stressed, seats us and sends I’m guessing) a manager over to tell us that there is only mushroom lasagna available b/c that is what they had for our order so that’s what we have to eat. Wow there’s no « just in case » meat lasagnas in the fridge to switch it out?! Can’t throw one together? I explain that it’s my husbands b day and he doesn’t eat mushrooms, in fact hates them. Nothing they can do. So, we’re stuck. Kids were hungry and parking took forever so I figure we’ll stay...but I’m fuming inside. The waitress was friendly and helped diffuse some of my frustration but still a terrible approach to planning food at a top restaurant. I was hoping the fried chicken would be delicious and make up for it all. However, the lasagna was actually better than the fried chicken. The chicken breading was ok, the skin on the chicken was not crisp and you had to pick it apart to avoid eating the slimy skin between the breading and the meat. The broccoli slaw was just big chunks of raw broccoli with a dressing on it I’d chop it up if it were my restaurant. Wine was served in small juice cups. The appetizers were probably the best part but really nothing about this experience made me want to go back. In fact, it made me want to tell everyone I know not to waste their money there. There are so many other great restaurants in town! They did not end up charging us for the mushroom lasagna but given the frustration and the not so great food overall it ended up making for a bummer birthday dinner :
