Simple bare food is also offered that I have always found to be quite good.Service is generally quite pleasant and attentive, and the team do a good job to present the cocktail theater ' that comes with certain drinks. this could be the lighting cocktails on the fire before them, or throw dried ice on the floor to create a puff of smoke. my main criticism at eau de vie next to the aging cocktail menu is the live music. on the last Friday evening I was here, a performer took the small stage in the corner of the bar to spend just a few minutes with the slipping out and popsongs. of course, that has not added to the ambiente des ortes, and the music was so loud that my group in the lounge could hardly hear each other. we have seriously thought of stepping on another bar at this point. my suggestion as controversial as it sounds would be the live music to be able. I don't think that any kind of mozens come to eau de vie to listen to live music, and it distracts from the otherwise cool mood that the bar goes for itself.
So theatrical! they have a show for a lot of cocktails that espresso martini was one of the coolest to watch
I've been to Eau De Vie years ago. At one point it was my favorite cocktail spot in Sydney. My wife and I travel around the world and always try and find good cocktail spots. Out favorite is probably Death and Company in NYC. Spent 6 weeks in Australia, mostly with the in-laws. So, after a few weeks with them I was really needing my go to drink, a mezcal old fashioned. Sydney is getting better for mezcal, but still not easy to find something decent and they are still expensive. Back to Eau De Vie... We went there at opening with a reservation. Staff were nice and accommodating. Made me an old fashioned with angostura and mole bitters. They asked if it was okay and sent it back as I like to taste my booze and this was too syrupy. Next one was better. Then I had a Sazerac which was very good. Wife and friend had a couple of cocktails each which thy enjoyed. At this point the bar had filled and one group of about 12-15 people showed up and just took over the place. People in the party would show up and yell from the entrance to inside about how excited they were to see so and so... The yelling continued and everyone just looked at these people and how incredibly rude they were. Its a pretty small bar for the most part... They say Americans are loud. So as this group got louder, the bar turned up the music. Group got louder, music got louder, etc..., etc.. Wow!. Anyway asked staff if they could ask people to quiet down and got a shoulder shrug from staff. Let them know how I felt, payed and left. So, cocktails, give it B+. However, five a D- for speakeasy vibe. It's dim, has a nice bar, but staff has no control over what happens. If I want to go to a club and have to shout to have a conversation I know where to find that. For a high priced cocktail, I expect a much different vibe.
Tried a couple of different cocktails which were all delicious! Huge range of whiskeys as well served any way you like. Staff were friendly and helpful, showing us through the menu and helping us find a drink we would like. Perfect atmosphere for a relaxed drink!
Apparently this is the 'house policy ' but to me this is the height of rudeness and I didn 't appreciate the constant interruptions by the waitstaff (who I know were just trying to do their job). This was compounded by the noisiness of the bar which made it nearly impossible to hear each other. Will not be going back
