We have not got off the toilet non stop since last night and stomach cramps galore. My sisters bog is working overtime. Safe to safe to say we will never visit here again.
Disgusting, chips luke warm, doubt it was Cod, flesh very dark and still watery, batter pale and certainly not cooked through, soggy inside could not separate batter from so called cod, what a waste of £10.50 won't go there again even if it was the last chip shop in existence Graham
Have never faulted the food but went in today and ordered food was £5.70 my mate aske for a coke as well and was told £6.70 which was paid in cash. Sat down and waited for our order. When collecting it we asked for the other coke and he asked for another pound when we had already paid. I pointed out we had paid but he wouldn't give us it till we paid another pound. On leaving I tried to be polite which earlier I wasn't and just say as long standing customers it is not good to treat us like that. He was rude and off hand. I will never give this thieve my costom again.
This chip shop is a complete joke. The best chip shop in town which is round the corner from this place in Bartlett Street has just closed down so there are lots of potential new customers on a Friday night wanting fish and chips. I’ve now tried to get fish and chips from this place 4 times and only managed it once, which was last year when Bartlett Street was shut because they were on holiday. The fish and chips was ok, pretty average, but the fish had barely any batter in it, it looked like it had been splashed on with a teaspoon to save money on the batter, rather than dipped in it like other chip shops do. The second time (again Bartlett Street shut due to holidays) they told me they had run out of chips. Not that they needed to put more on and it would be a few minutes just that they had run out so no more chips that evening (and it wasn’t late it was about 6pm). WTF? What chip shop “runs out” of chips? Now Bartlett Street has closed down, which I am totally gutted about, I have tried twice to get served at this place. Both times I have stood outside in the freezing cold with at least two other customers in front of me for at least 15 minutes and the queue didn’t go down by even one person. Not one. Of course I know that chip shops can only have one person in them at a time now, but the most I’ve waited outside Bartlett Street has been 10 mins maximum. 15 minutes and the queue had not moved an inch. At all. Last time I gave up and went home. This time, not only did the queue not move at all for 15 minutes, but twice, people who seemed to be the mates of the people behind the counter, jumped the queue, gave their order, and then came back 5 mins later to pick it up. I was so angry I asked them why were they so slow and why were they letting people jump the queue and they just shrugged. So I told them that their fish and chips weren’t that great for me to wait half an hour in the cold(and I actually think it would have been longer than that if I had stayed) and if they didn’t want my money then I would spend it with a takeaway that did, and went across the road for a curry. The guy at the Indian takeaway told me that chip shop cook literally everything to order, even on a Friday night. Everything. I mean WTF? What chip shop does that? You cook up the fish beforehand and then it’s kept warm and ready. This place had the chance to get a whole bunch of new customers with Bartlett Street chippy closing but what do they do leave people to stand in the street on a freezing cold evening while they cook everything individually because they don’t want to risk cooking a extra **** fish that might be left at the end of the night, and serve their mates ahead of people who have been queuing for ages in the cold. I can quite honestly say I would not buy fish and chips from this place if it was the last chip shop in town it’s a total disgrace.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Darlington is this super little fish and chip shop. Impeccably clean and well presented they cook all fish to order using a high quality catch. Nothing flash (it doesn’t need to be! but simple, delicious food at a good value price. Well worth a visit.
