However, walk inside and you will find a pleasant, simple decor, courteous staff, and good food at a reasonable price. We stopped in one Sunday and found that there was a buffet special. Though a small buffet, it included standard Chinese restaurant fare, including won ton, deep fried meat dishes, vegetables, etc. The washrooms were horrible. Countertops and fixtures are completely worn out. I don't know how the proprietors cannot see this and did not renovate a long time ago. It is in marked contrast to the dining area and needs to be addressed.
There was nothing special about the food at all. The service was very poor. Was served canned drinks with no glasses and when I requested glasses the kid server brought me one, for three people.
They do not offer a lot of Chinese selection for a single diner. The only meal for one is the special which amongst other things, includes chicken balls and deep fried shrimp. I am not a fan of those items anywhere so I opt for something else. However that is the only mixed Chinese dish without getting into dinner for 2 or larger. The other option is individual dishes. I like a good crispy style ginger beef. They have ginger beef but only available as a full plate. They would not make me a dish of ginger beef, fried rice, noodles. So I got a big plate of ginger beef. They did include a side of white rice which was better than nothing. Note this is not a crispy style ginger beef. It is the same sliced beef as in your average beef and broccoli. Flavourful and hot, tasty. Reasonable sized dish. I kinda wanted buffet. Sign said 11;30 but no buffet today. Bottom line - would I eat here again? Yes. However I would make sure the buffet was available or come with more people to experience more of their Chinese dishes. Cannot comment on the Canadian food. If you like chicken balls and deep fried shrimp, get the special. It's huge.
Tried this place out while visiting from Winnipeg. Saw it had decent reviews so we gave it a try. The worst Chinese restaurant we have ever been to, tiny food selection, the trays were always empty we had to keep waiting for food to be brought out which took a long time. Only positive thing is the price, was cheap for buffet. Wouldn't go back.
If you're in Dauphin, you have to stop at this family run establishment. It is by far the best Cantonese food anywhere. The chicken balls and the chop suey are not to be missed.
