I'm not quite sure how to express my feelings about this restaurant other than to say that everything is great. The salads could use a little improvement, but apart from that, it's fantastic. There's a reason this place is consistently voted the number one pizza spot and wins the people's choice awards year after year. The pizza here is always exceptional. I highly recommend taking the extra time to order the thick crust; it may not take much longer, but it's definitely worth the extra time and cost. We've also tried their calzones, which are amazing. We thought we'd test their ability to make Italian dishes, and they truly knocked it out of the park. Their meatballs, marinara, spaghetti, and alfredo are simply the best. This isn't a chain restaurant, so don’t expect a generic flavor that is just enough to please the masses. This place has real flavor that is sure to delight everyone.
I'm giving this place three stars because it wasn't terrible. We ordered the "pizza of the week" and garlic knots. The garlic knots were decent, though not exceptional, and took around 10 minutes to arrive. However, the pizza took almost 50 minutes after the garlic knots were served. The "pizza of the week" turned out to be an overhyped frozen pizza—nothing fancy or noteworthy. The cook was unfriendly, and the woman at the counter had an attitude. I would recommend skipping this restaurant and heading next door to the Diner; that place is fantastic!
My last day of Ragbrai and I was hungry. Sampling brews next door and i opted to grab some garlic knots and a calzone of the ‘slice of the day’. Both were amazing; I almost finished the calzone.Outdoor patio was lively with both Ragbrai and a race finishing up.
I was in from out of town and stopped by to grab some dinner on my way out of town. It was a hot day and I came in and ordered a small veggie pizza to go. The pizza ended up being good (exactly what I expected level) but the staff while I waited were super friendly. I ended up ordering a Gelato while I waited and she volunteered tastes of the different flavors (ended up going with the cinnamon toast crunch which was great, though the banana seemed just as good. You could tell they had regular families the staff knew, and were comfortable with and right before they delivered my pizza they came up and asked if they could steal my empty gelato cup to throw it out. Good food, but phenomenal service atmosphere.
