The remodel opens up the inside area, very clean in looks and design. Needs finishing touches to make it feel a little less sterile, but lots of space both inside and out.Our food for 3 adults and 3 children came out together, served hot and just as ordered. Chorizo beni was very good. Short rib hash fell a touch short but had nice flavors. In both cases, I wish potatoes were cut smaller to give more texture, but flavors were good. Beers we tried were gunrock hazy and the peoples pilsner, both very good. Unfortunately they were out of Marzen and also root beer. The manager pointed out they were brewing a fresh batch of Marzen to be ready soon. Slight bummer for us. Our server was new but nailed her service. Manager was also present, checked in. All in all, we enjoyed the new improvements at Sudwerk!
On Sudwerk's large patio with screens showing the live women's World Cup match, we heard lots of enthusiasm for soccer, games, brews, and food. Their fresh salads are great and light, but many people enjoyed food from fryers, like a variety of crispy potatoes and chicken.
Like so many other patrons of the previous Sudwerk German themed restaurant/brewery we were very excited to see them reopen. Realizing it had a drastic change in theme and decor we didn't expect it to be anything like the previous. The old restaurant had what I would say was mediocre food towards the end but the fresh beer was always the reason we went. Our lunch today was dissapointing at best. Very limited menu, fried chicken sandwich was huge but dry, wife's flat iron steak with fries was very, very rare. Both plates came with a mountain of fries, maybe to make up for lack of quality in the entrées. Marzen and Pilsner beer were still good but unfortunately not worth our trip there. The positive side is we were very well greeted and served by friendly employees. We really hope management listens to the many dissatisfied customers like us and get a better choice of offerings.
The renovation looks pretty good! They 've got the clean, airy feel with the toupe walls and dark trim, the exposed AC ducts, and the stained concrete like most places you see nowadays. They 're really pushing the outdoor beergarten vibe with the upgraded patio that you walk through to get in. Inside, the table and chair format replaced the booths. I do kind of miss the cushy booths, but the beer never misses, the staff is friendly, and the food is consistently very good. A Davis, CA landmark. Check it out.
Completely new restaurant opened 2023. Beer and wine were fabulous as always, and also like before, the food was lacking.Outdoor dining is a must. Indoor conversations are barely possible when sitting side by side with someone, let alone across a table.Previous review circa 2010:Excellent wines, but the food can sometimes leave me wishing for a little better.
