October 2nd 2020 To the management of Pine Cone Restaurants, We visit the DeForest restaurant quite often. Once or twice a week as a couple, and often times with family. It is one of our go to places for many reasons. Good, filling, home cooked food for reasonable prices. The experience we had today changed our minds about this restaurant and we will NOT be back. Since Covid started, we have been very careful. We like to travel, and frequent restaurants, but safely. We use hand sanitizer religiously and wear our masks. Today we decided to head to Pine Cone in Deforest for breakfast. While seated and waiting to be greeted, we noticed a woman in the staging/prep area not wearing a mask. When I inquired about this I was told she had a medical condition that kept her from wearing a mask. We will not stay to eat somewhere where someone touching food is not wearing a mask. To make matters worse, as we left, we said something to the man behind the counter at the register. He was putting away pastries with his mask down below his nose, not covering it. I told him why we were leaving, that there was a person in the food prep area without a mask on at all. As I mentioned the mask to him, he raised his mask over his nose and asked if I was the mask Nazi. As we walked out, he continued to talk about something else that was going to kill us first, and we didn't stick around to hear what he was saying. Upon leaving, when we got outside, I turned to look back in the glass plate windows. He was crouched down below the counter, and raised himself up, gave us the middle finger with both hands, as we walked away. I would not wish this experience on anybody. I am addressing this to the management so that this does not happen again. Employees need to be trained to interact professionally and responsibly with customers. We felt insulted and belittled. I would be mortified if I owned a company and found out my employee had treated customers in this fashion.
When traveling from Chicago to WI, we often stop off here for a fast bite. Service is great, and so is the food. Staff is always very kind. I finally tried one of their tempting doughnuts and was not disappointed.
Took a little bit to get menus but the wait staff was incredibly friendly. The tuna melt that I got was absolutely amazing. I didn't realize it came with tomato on it but I promise you even if you aren't big on tomatoes, you'll love the tuna melt with or without it. My meal alone(the closer sandwich pictured) was a total of $10.42 and I ended up having leftovers to take home too. It's a very nice and quiet environment. I'd describe it as a family restaurant but I wouldn't suggest bringing young children with if you visit.
I visited this restaurant on my way home from a doctor's appointment. Although it was quite busy, our food was served promptly, and the staff was extremely friendly. The bakery items looked absolutely stunning! I couldn’t sample any due to my health issues, but I couldn’t resist taking a picture of their cream puff. Wow!
