Upon researching local spots Zorba's reviews seemed to be a good spot to checkout and I'm glad I did! The parking on a Friday during the lunch rush was a bit cumbersome but once inside we were promptly seated. The wait staff was friendly and quick in taking our order, plus the food came out within a reasonable time too. I ordered the gyro lunch special and my colleague ordered an eggplant dish. Both were fresh and hit the spot, plus the portions were also a good value for the money. Given the overall speediness, quality of food, and price I can definitely see myself returning in the future.
Nine months ago I reviewed Zorba's and gave them five stars. Unfortunately today I am updating my review to only one star. And that is because zero stars is not an option. They always had amazing food, great service and nice sized portions. I really enjoyed the family atmosphere and if we dined in or got take out everything was always great. They also deliver to the local area and we took advantage of that especially on rainy nights. Things started going down hill about three months ago. The portions became smaller, our orders would be messed up and they constantly forgot items when they delivered to us. Even though we were annoyed at all the mistakes, we still continued to order. The food was still good and it was very convenient. This past Friday night was the last time we will ever order from them again. My friend actually found a large piece of glass (see picture) in his soup. It was delivered as usual by their normal delivery person so I do not think it was intentional. I really think it was pure negligence on their part. My friend called the restaurant to talk to one of the owners. Not to really complain but to make sure they dumped that pot of soup. He was concerned someone else would swallow glass and get hurt. I am truly disappointed in ownership. After several calls they decided to call us back. The next day! Seriously that is just disgusting behavior from the ownership at Zorba's. Unfortunately when they called my friend was unavailable to take the call. He attempted a few more calls but did not get another call back. This is a horrible way to run a business. Do they just not care? This is glass we are talking about. People can get hurt. What are they thinking? Please be very careful if you eat there. I would not recommend Zorba's to anyone. Why take a chance? It's just not worth it.
Stopped by for a second visit. We were happy to see that the service was a bit more robust this time around. We were promptly greeted by a friendly waiter, then ordered and had drinks served within a few minutes. The food was great this time too. Our table got a souvlaki, gyro, Greek salad, fries, tzatziki, and orzo in tomato sauce...and all were delicious, every bite. The kefthedes were a huge disappointment however. There was barely any meat in them! It was like we were eating spongy, fried bread crumb balls. Pretty revolting. That aside though, we were quite pleased with the meal and for just over $8 a head you really can't go wrong. Recommended!
The atmosphere was awesome nice music made for a Fun hearted evening . The weather was cool breezy as we enjoyed eating our meal outside. Lampshank was the best I ever had. The appetizer we had was octopus which is their specialty . Fresh amazingly tender, flavorful, charbroiled to perfection, homemade Tzatizki and hummus that comes complementary was an added bonus . Everything made from scratch if your looking for true authentic greek food to suit even the finickiest palette for Mediterranean flavor this is a place you will want to swing by. The people are super friendly and go out of their way to make it wonderful meal.
This is your prototypical kitschy Greek restaurant in a strip mall that you might find in Tarpon Springs, NYC or in Chicago. The place is painted the signature Cyclades white with blue accents and there are Mediterranean scenes with a painted Anthony Quinn in his trademark arms spread wide on the walls. It looks a little worse for wear, it has that Luncheonette/Diner feel to it like you might find at similar Greek tavernas in Queens. Just imagine it shoved under the elevated train tracks in Astoria with no parking in front and you'll feel right at home. And you know what? It's good. On our first visit we came for lunch and had the Keftedes (meatball) sandwich and the Moussaka. Both really tasty, nice size portions. Greek salad had nice ripe tomatoes and used real Feta. We subbed stewed green beans for the potatoes which still had a nice bite and were not overcooked. Second visit we came for dinner with another couple. I ordered keftedes appetizer, avgolemono soup and loukanikou sausage. Soup was good, had a lot of orzo in it, was very filling. Wife got small greek salad with grilled shrimp has a real charcoal taste to it. Loukanikou was grilled, quite tasty but did not really have the signature citrus taste most Greek sausages have. Keftedes is the pan fried type, has a lot of filler in it but has nice salty cheese flavor. Other couple ordered sliced leg of lamb (topped with a gravy) and a skirt steak. Did not try but looked good. Galaktoboureko dessert was excellent, appears made in house. No alcohol. If you want your Ouzo or Zeus you'll need to bring your bottle. I know this place gets crazy busy during season and had never managed to get in on a Friday night and now i know why.
