Amazing place! If you are in to Western US history, this place will blow your mind! The elk and bison are always spectacular! Walk upstairs for even more history and the bar!
We had a 3 course dinner with a group of 16. We had a variety of appetizers (Rocky Mountain oysters, crocodile nuggets elk sausage etc , bread and a plate with various cheeses and some raw vegetables. A very strange combination of starters, then we had a salad: just some sliced salad with 2 cherry tomatoes and mandarins from a can. A really bad performance of the cooks. Then the main course: a good well cooked steak with horrible french fries. The desert was a kuke warm applepie which was acceptable but not great. Over the years i have eaten several times at the Buckhorn Exchange and most times I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. This time was a bad experience and even the waitress wasn’t friendly. I think this was my last visit here.
Eating at the Buckhorn Exchange is an experience where you jump back in time to the 1800s. Animal trophies line the wall space on the lower levels and upper floors. It is a unique experience. My wife had the sirloin and I had the elk and buffalo combo. The food was very good, but you can probably find similar at another Colorado restaurant, for less money. My salad was OK, and the dinner rolls were stale. You should not get stale dinner rolls when paying the prices Buckhorn charges. Talia our server was VERY GOOD. Our last visit to Buckhorn was 25 years ago. It will probably be that long until we come back.
Food was great but what really made the experience unique was all the history. Our server gave us lots of interesting information.
