Irish themed pubs are a Northeastern dining staple, and North Jersey certainly has its share. At their best they are warm, fun and inviting places to relax and enjoy a drink and a meal. Thatcher McGhee's in Denville makes it into that category easily, with delicious fresh food and friendly, efficient service. On a recent visit my wife and I enjoyed Reuben egg rolls, fresh cod and some of the best fish and chips I've had anywhere. A very minor disappointment were the crispy-coated commercial fries, but at least they were perfectly cooked like everything else. Some good fresh hand-cut fries would have been better accompaniment for the excellent fried cod filets. We've walked by Thatcher McGhee's a number of times on our way to other favorite Denville spots, but we're very glad we stepped in this time, and we'll certainly be returning.
This is a great spot to grab a drink and hang out with friends. The customer service was quick and courteous which can be rare for some drinking holes. Plenty of TV's to watch your favorite sporting event. They also had a good selection of drinks both on tap and otherwise. Food was also very good and came rather quickly from the kitchen.
The place has great music, there’s DJ after 10 pm on Friday’s. I went with my folks for drinks and appetizers. I liked the spinach and artichoke dip so creamy and fresh, and the thin crust cheese pizza the sauce is good. From the drinks we ordered I liked the absolute stress reliever the most. Getting a table has quite some waiting time on weekends, so plan ahead- no reservations are taken. The service/staff is really good and helpful.
