Service was excellent, the waiter was the right amount of attentive, knew the menu inside out and wasn't pushy. It is lovely inside the restaurant, with open fires and a cosy ambience. Would definitely go again.
Dinner. We went to The Green Herring with another couple, and despite the deliberately run-down looking exterior it's quite nice inside, and feels very intimate. The food itself was pretty good, with the desserts being a bit of a highlight while the entrees on the day were a little unprepossessing. I would go again.
This restaurant is by far the best Gungahlin has to offer. Every time I eat here, it is always amazing food and fantastic attentive service. The desserts are a must! Especially the Banana Parfait. Their house made dips and breads are delicious also.
Loved it!. I've just read one of the amateur food blogger posts about Green Herring, which was quite negative.....and am completely embarrassed for the blogger, as they clearly haven't done their research! Green Herring is a beautiful historic building built in 1860 (it's not a run-down shack as I've seen it described! . The low ceilings and fireplaces are beautiful, and there is a lovely intimate feeling to the two-room restaurant. The wait staff were absolutely fantastic (I didn't see even a slight bit of attitude or abruptness , and I could honestly say this is the best service I've received in Canberra in the last 12 months. I overhead several other tables commending the owner and his wait staff on their attentive service.<br/ <br/ The food was absolutely beautiful, and if anything the portion sizes were a little overgenerous. So you absolutely get value for what you are paying for. The complimentary chocolates at the end of the night were a lovely touch. We will definitely be returning, thank you for a lovely evening.
Fabulous 3 course meal at a reasonable price for the quality of the meal (which wap 5 stars in itself) and personal service. The restaurant is in a mud hut built in Bookham NSW back in 1860. It wap moved to its current location in 1970. Being in such a building the atmosphere is to die for. Although the building is well over 100 years old there is accessible entry. If the restaurant is advised special accessibility is required at booking, a table with additional space will be reserved. The Green Herring has been operating in the building for approximately 20 years and under current management for the past 10. All in all 10 out of 10.
