Peanut sauce is awesome. Killed my own chicken and ate it too. Quite a cool experience. The family is very nice and will serve you some great food, it’s worth the hike out here. Make sure you don’t follow google maps! There is an easy way and hard way to get out here from Phong Nha. If you follow Google Maps, they take you the hard way. There is another route that is mostly paved that takes you over a bridge. Go during the day and not at night. Lighting is poor out by the farm at night.
This was an adventure to get to on bikes after the previous day's rain (muddy and bumpy), but the reward was the view and delicious food. If you decide to get the chicken, you have the option to go back in the chicken coop and kill the meal to be prepared by the family. It's an experience like no other, but definitely not for those who can't stand to see an animal be harmed or the sight of blood. There's a pool, volleyball court, plenty of hammocks to lounge in, and toilets. Don't forget the cold beer too! You might need it after the ride in.
Perfect place where to chill and enjoy the nice atmosphere around while in Phong Nha.. The all food combination with the roasted chicken, rice, veggies and the super peanut sauce together is the TOP to try in this cool place runned by a friendly Vietnamese family..
If you are making a list of things to do/places to stop around Phong Nha then this is a great afternoon choice. Like the name sez cold beer Also a pool, great views and heaps of space to relax. If you've been on the road for a while a cold beer and a swim is worth a stop. If you have more than a few beers then sleep in a hammock, swag, or tent.
